I now have reached the 1000 mark in subscribership. Back in September it was about 60. I have to thank all of you and the many who have shared my posts and commented.
I am a semi-retired 76-year-old Canadian media professional marooned in Tokyo. I live alone with two cats in a small apartment. After a stint as a stringer in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, I ended up in Japan on a Buddhist study visa; then went on to work for some of the world’s largest companies in Japan and abroad and almost every Japanese governmental division, which means that I know a lot about the ugly kluge that is the innermost workings of so-called “neoliberalism— not to mention media manipulation.
Mind you, while I have been a media whore, I never kissed my clients on the mouth. I have some principles.
I am not all that smart, but my ASD makes me polymathic which to those not familiar with this kind of thing sometimes comes across as giftedness. But I am dyslexic, dyspraxic, dysgraphic, dyscalculic— dys-this; dys-that.
What am I doing with News Forensics? My life working with media taught me that the “news” is to “truth”, what a fake orgasm is to love.
This site is penance.
Or maybe I do this because throughout my life, so many people—sometimes strangers— helped me when I really needed it.
At this age, I need to give something back.
All I have is this strange, way of seeing the world.
It’s like an old broken window, with pieces of smudgy glass scotch-taped in place, offering a fractured view of the what’s outside. I have to look carefully, from different angles, to see what is happening, to compensate for the distortions and sometimes see things that other do not. Of course, I often get things wrong. At the same time, I hopefully make useful connections.
Once again, thank you! Now that I have reached the 1000 mark, I will start considering donations to buy my two boy cats, Jet and Ichi kibble.
Congrats...
My closest neighbours are the 2 magpies in my street, after i joined their cry-fight with the gang of crows from around the corner, which to my astonishment caused the crows to blow the retreat and my magpies to victorious claim the rain gutter opposite my house.
When i go out to the shop around the corner, they greet me and i answer.
Due to my allergies, i don't have any pets and after 13 relations, including 4 marriages, i now live on my own enjoying my lifelong paid holiday which they call "retired".
I too try to payback with some talents i appear to have. Mostly about Truth.
But the children i have been able to support some years of their lives and the Internet, that i helped create in the world are my trophies up until now.
But this is the part of my life to see old fellow travellers disappear.
It's a wonderful world and it is passing by like everything in it. Coming and going...
According to Thomas, Jesus said: "Be passers-by".
So i don't attach to anything or anyone anymore.
There are many facts, but only one Truth. You can put the facts into words, but not the Truth.

Congrats. Well deserved. The network effect is real.
