Amanpour vs Marandi
CNN loses
There was a vast diaspora created by the Iranian Revolution, with many in the pro-Western elite fleeing to the West. These were not poor people, or uneducated and some of them did very well indeed abroad. Christiane Amanpour’s father was an airline executive and the Revolution cost him his career and — she says lost him ‘his fortune’ but he still managed to relocate to the US to send Christiane to a good school of journalism.
She got a lot of interviews for CNN because she gave her interviewees “a hearing”, which CNN dutifully broadcast —while maintaining whatever narrative it was pushing at the time. She is, as you will see, usually open about her biases.
There are some situations one simply cannot be neutral about, because when you are neutral, you are an accomplice. Objectivity doesn't mean treating all sides equally. It means giving each side a hearing.
It’s been called “advocacy” journalism.
But she did very well securing interviews with a wide range of leaders. They got to a “hearing” on CNN. She got to look “principled”, even if often factually compromised and therefore morally incoherent.
Fortunately, her views rarely disagreed with CNN’s! CNN is also factually compromised and morally incoherent.
She certainly did well.
She has a publicly disclosed net worth of $18 million which likely means twice that . She keeps residences in New York and London. Her home in London could be worth anywhere from $5 million to $25 million.
Ah, yes…the good life!
It pays to play. Butin the Media Whirl you gotta sing the right song.,
Amanpour dutifully recites the mantra that Chavez and Maduro were dictators, who suppresses the democracy in Venezuela. She recites the Israeli line about Hamas atrocities, while giving lip service to the sufferings of Gazan people and attacking the Zionist holocaust industry. And she thinks Ukraine is a democracy that must be protected against Russian “aggression”.
I work in journalism for years and was even headhunted by CNN at one point—which I turned down knowing I couldn’t do swim in the mainstream. Also, any company interested in me could not be worth working for!
Amanpour was always caught between worlds. Her father was Iranian. Her mother was an English Catholic . I always get the feeling she is neither here nor there. Watch the interview and you will see what I mean.
Her interview with Professor Marandi is, among other things, a good example of how the Western media campaign tries to distort, falsify and mislead the world while pretending to be “objective”. To the degree that Amanpour is clearly not ‘objective”; rather partisan and unable to argue the facts, only express opinions, CNN fails, despite being part of well-organized and well-funded Western program that includes media, academe and various American-funded expatriate Iranian organizations. CNN represents an orthodoxy.
The upshot ? Marandi comes out ahead.
Then again, Amanpour is not a “Journalist” so much as she is an Interviewer, not necessarily the same thing.
Enormous amounts of money are invested in demonizing any opposition to the grand delusion of American supremacy – be it Russian, Chinese, or Iranian. Not to mention Venezuelan and Nicaraguan.

When a journalist starts his introduction by saying that he works for CNN or BBC (I wouldn't even mention the other Western trash press) then I immediately turn off that media outlet because I'm not interested in listening to lies in my precious time ! I listened to Amanpour once (if I remember correctly) when Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto brilliantly crushed shes lies to dust, even though Amanpour apparently really wanted to earn her monthly salary ! :)
Julian - Thank you for another perfect example......
