When I was a kid. I looked forward to birthdays, hoping that I could do things in the next year that I couldn't do in the previous one. It was pretty simple.
Now, at 77, it's a little more complicated. There are some things I can't do as well.
Of course, there are other things I probably do better, lacking the illusions of youth, having made just about every possible mistake.
I am also not as well-off as I used to be – but that forces me to think about what is important and what is not – to prioritize.
What is it that I truly need? A lot of things have changed.
I think the most important change is now when a birthday comes around, I look back to the previous year to my blessings--and realize how grateful I am to just be alive – and how grateful I am to all the people who have helped me in the goodness of their hearts.
That's YOU! You give me purpose. You give me direction. You give me vision. You make me rock. I am so lucky.
Thank you so much.

I hope you like the video. It’s on my website www.ageingyoung.com, along with the song contributed by my friend and mentor, Mark Carr Pritchett, David
Bowie’s guitarist and song writer about growing old.
The feelings and inspiration are mutual. Stay strong and rock on.
Happy Birthday! As a recent 79 year old I understand your feelings all too well. Thank you for sharing your insights with us.
