On July 29, a deranged young man killed 3 young girls aged between 6 and 9 in Southport, north of Liverpool. Eight other children and two adults were injured. The young man was a British-born citizen and a Christian.
The incident was followed by riots nationwide targeting Muslims and immigrants. Of course, there has been political fallout.
SouthFront asked me to investigate and write an article, which I have started on now, having waited for the smoke to clear a little. It hasn’t. Rather, there is more smoke. With the government starting fires.
Tragedies like Southport are all too common, especially in the US—although mob attacks on minorities have been a feature of almost every society throughout history with ethnic enclaves.
But this incident is more complicated than most in terms of political background – and multiple causes. not to mention misrepresentation by the Media – not just the Social Media – but the Mainstream Media – and of course by politicians such as Starmer and other hacks. Add to that a huge range of conspiracy theories, which, as is usual, with such things, all have roots in something real deep down where you can’t see it.
This is how the American media presented it.
APNEWS
Police detained a 17-year-old suspect. Rumors, later debunked, quickly circulated on social media that the suspect was an asylum-seeker, or a Muslim immigrant.
And…..
The rioting spread to cities and towns in many parts of the U.K. as far-right activists circulated misinformation about the attack, according to the government and police.
Less than two hours after the stabbing, a social media user known as European Invasion said the attacker was “alleged to be a Muslim immigrant.” The allegation posted on X later appeared on Facebook and Telegram, according to Logically, a U.K.-based company that uses artificial and human intelligence to combat online propaganda.
The rumor was included in an article published by Channel 3Now, a site with suspected links to Russia, Logically said. The article was then cited by Russian state-affiliated news organizations including RT and Tass.
“It is likely that Channel 3Now is a Russian asset aimed at seeding information intended to cause online harm and create division in the U.K.,” Logically said in analysis posted on X.
Social media videos encourage like-minded people to engage in the types of unrest they see online, said Stephanie Alice Baker, a sociologist at City University of London who studies crowd behavior and the far right.
“Logically”? Who are THEY? Channel3Now also claimed to use AI and “human intelligence”! Just sayin’….
RT
This is what RT said in its quickly revised article on the incident:
Due to an editing error, this article originally stated that an outlet claiming to be based in the US, called Channel3 Now, had identified the suspect as Ali-Al-Shakati, an asylum-seeker who allegedly arrived in the UK by boat last year.
He was reportedly “on the MI6 watch list and known to Liverpool mental health services.”
Channel3 Now, which seems to specialize in covering shootings, mostly in America, later deleted the claim. It appears to be an “aggregator” that often publishes fake claims designed to go viral.
The website was registered under a Lithuanian domain in 2023, and British media has reported that it “has a single named author, called James Lawley, whose LinkedIn account states that he owns a gardening company in Nova Scotia, Canada... and the site is routed through a Massachusetts-based service that anonymizes website ownership details.”
Apart from this RT’s coverage has been excellent - balanced, factual and informative.
Logically ….illogically
Logically works with various UK media companies and is transparently, if not illogically anti-Russian, spreading stories such as Russia behind anti-Zionist protests in the US.
Its activities suggest it is backed by British, American, or Zionist intelligence services who have a long history and extensive experience setting up all sorts of disinformation sites. Like Bellingcat.
It should be noted that both Tass and RT were quicker to correct Channel 3Now’s disinformation than most Western media.
There is no evidence that Channel 3Now is connected to a “Russian disinformation network.” James Lawley is a young man in Nova Scotia, probably the victim of identity theft. Some effort has gone into hiding who actually runs the website using anonymizer services in the US (reportedly). Who actually really owns and operates Channel3Now is unclear. It could be just another aggregator site.
Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) last week had arrested Farhan Asif — a 32-year-old freelance web developer associated with the Channel3Now platform
He was arrested and “acquitted” 4 days later !
FIA investigators were of the view that Asif was not the first source of this spurious news, but rather copy-pasted it from a social media post.
Curious and curiouser. But there is an answer which I will get to in a moment.
First, one must consider Stephen Lennon aka Tommy Robinson —a Zionist supported Islamophobic fraudster. You won’t hear much about his Zionist connections — just the insinuation that he is a Russian agent. No, he didn’t’ get money from them - just from the Zionists.
There is no doubt that he hopes that Russia wins in the Ukraine. But the Russians don’t want anything to do with him —much less pay him to make trouble in a country that makes trouble for itself without any help from outsiders.
Still, Keith Starmer;s government knows who to blame. It is accusing “state actors” —that is, Russia and Iran of— at the very least- contributing to disorder. According to Politico.
John Woodcock, the government’s adviser on political violence, has, however, warned that “troll factories” in countries including Russia and Iran can play a part in stoking disorder.
“I made a key recommendation in my review to give the intelligence services more power, more capability, to crack down on the way that hostile states are seizing on every incident to create misinformation and to fan the flames of British extreme actors,” he said.
Ah…clarity!
Yes, you can get conspiracy theories on X and Telegram and the social media. But better ones from politicians - including your government—not any less false. And a LOT juicier.
One thing is clear. When something happens —blame the Russians.
I am still researching this article. I will let you know what I find before I publish it on SouthFront.
Ichi Anonymous
Hi, my name is Ichi and I am an addict. I love matatabi (silver vine / Japanese “catnip”). It makes me high—but the hangovers are awful.
Julian put it on my scratching board and now I am hooked.
Help me!
To help, buy us coffee by clicking HERE. Or on the photo.
Julian says he needs one more day to build a new mailing list and finish off his “Special Report” which I have been helping him write, except when I am drunk
By buying coffee, you get on the mailing list— and I can get a new scratching board.
Julian will finish the last part tomorrow and make a new mailing list and I will help him proof read (if I am not drunk).
Has anyone asked what motivated this kid? How did he know that this "Taylor Swift themed dance class" was going on in another town and why then did he get a taxi all the way there to attack these kids?
A big human problem and a lot of humour.
