The Americans are said to be thinking of proposing a partition of Ukraine into two, with a kind of DMZ. They like this kind of thing and have tried it in the past with the Koreas, Vietnam, and so on. It never ends well.
For the Russians, it is non-starter. They read history.
Former President, now Deputy Head of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev has said.
I would like to highlight the so-called German scenario, which has resurfaced on the agenda. It suggests that a fragmented Ukraine would resemble a kind of FRG and GDR, with the role of the FRG, of course, assigned to Bandera’s Kiev, while that of the GDR - to the Russian territories that have returned to their homeland. This scenario has emerged for obvious reasons, despite having no chance of success. The explanation is simple: it facilitates reconciling the leadership of the illegitimate Kiev regime with the most extreme neo-Nazis. In the historical sense, the "Germanic scenario" of settlement is only feasible in terms of integrating the territories of Malorossiya into Russia,.
If you look for maps of “”Malorossiya” (“Little Russia”) you will get quite different results, depending on who the maps were done for.
But historically Little Russia” included almost all of Ukraine – except as you can see here – Galicia—which was —as I have mentioned before— really part of Poland.
Notice that Volhynia was where Galician fascists slaughtered thousands of Poles and Jews and Gypsies and others in the 40s. According to his map, it would be under Russian control. Not that there are many—if any— Poles left there.
Villages were torched. Roman Catholic priests were axed or crucified. Churches were burned with all their parishioners. Isolated farms were attacked by gangs carrying pitchforks and kitchen knives. Throats were cut. Pregnant women were bayoneted. Children were cut in two. Men were ambushed in the field and led away. The perpetrators could not determine the province's future. But at least they could determine that it would be a future without Poles.
You can see why the DPR and LPR feared the Banderites! Amd why Putin feared genocide. It happened before— and, historically speaking, within memory.
In the map below, “Malorossiya” is significantly smaller and includes the territories taken by Western Ukrainians in their bid to “Ukrainize” the entire region in the interests of racial purity.
What Medvedev is saying is that fascism and neo-Nazism can not be tolerated anywhere in historic Ukraine, nor can any scenario that does not impose a reckoning on all those responsible for Western Ukraine’s war crimes, atrocities, and denial of human rights over more than a decade.
There can be no forgiveness for crimes against humanity. Wasn’t that the lesson of Nuremburg? Maybe not for Americans — who were happy to hire mass murderers to start up the CIA. But for most people.
Since 2014, the Russian attitude — and that of Putin himself— has hardened. Today, with the Banderites mounting terrorist attacks against the innocent —with the help of the British and the Americans, why should Russia bargain with the Great Deceiver? No, not Satan, but the US of A. Yes, the fires of Hell burn LNG.
As President of Russia back in 2008—Medvedev was a modernist and quasi-”Atlanticist”.
Putin and Medvedev were friends but….during the Libyan crisis he rebuked Putin, then Prime Minister, thusly according to the media:
Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has said Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's description of the UN resolution on Libya is "unacceptable".The rare rebuke came after Mr Putin said the resolution resembled "medieval calls for crusades".Mr Medvedev said such comments could "lead to a clash of civilisations".The UN resolution, which Russia abstained from voting on, authorised military action in Libya to protect civilians from pro-Gaddafi forces.Mr Medvedev told Russian news agencies: "Under no circumstances is it acceptable to use expressions which essentially lead to a clash of civilisations, such as 'crusade' and so on."It is unacceptable. Otherwise, everything may end up much worse compared to what's going on now."Mr Putin had said UN Security Council Resolution 1973, which was adopted on Thursday, was "defective and flawed" as it "allows for everything.
Putin was apparently shocked by the US’s Libyan adventure and especially the manner of Qaddafi’s death and, according to some reports, vowed it would never happen again—not if he could do anything about it.
Some reports, also unverifiable, had indicated that he had wanted to retire from politics but Libya convinced him otherwise—that he was needed —as indeed he was—especially with the US gearing up for Syria, encouraging terrorism just as it had in Chechnya.
The Western Media said his return to leadership had been agreed on long before—although the fact is no one knows for sure. In any case, the Russian people wanted him back! And he came.
So, in 2012, no matter the accuracy of rumor, Putin was back as President.
Now, the once moderate. “pro-western” and liberal Medvedev that Bloomberg loved is a hawk. Perhaps he wants to be President again. Or maybe he just saw the error of his ways— like so many other “Atlanticists”. Maybe he ate at McDonald’s.
In any case, Medvedev is talking tough. And he sees not just a “clash” of civilizations but war.
Putin has made clear his view that Russia is a moral and spiritual civilization -- in obvious contrast to the US, which is so clearly is a predatory economic empire-- held together through violence and coercion.
It is clear today that Putin was right about Libya. Russian civilization is not at war with the Ukraine— or even with the West– but the West is at war with it.
therefore, Belosouv, the new defense minister. has therefore warned that Russia must be prepared for a war with NATO in the next ten years-- and certainly that seems to be what NATO itself is saying.
So, what can Trump promise Putin? Nothing of course. It is all show for the American public. PR.
If the Russians take more of Ukraine as they are likely to do before talks even begin in March, they will be in a position to take the rest of the region before 2026, even going slow. Game over. The US will have to be content with attacking Greenland
Trump will blame the Democrats and anybody who disagreed with him— and the American media will just switch focus.

Interesting reading Julian.
BUT we are living in a 'shattered' world because of the USA.
I think a lot of us are hoping for the destruction of US/Zionists.
BUT just recently I have been 'out and about' in my small Town (it's hard for me because I am partially deaf) but the consensus seems to be that the Russians are bad for Europe.
Finally found my 'voice' again and ask: What have Russians done to you? NO one can answer this question except for the usual rubbish......communism.
When I mention how many Russians died (26 million) fighting for Europe they look at me and start another conversation!
I also ask: What have the USA done for you?
I cannot do this any more because it is doing my head in.
The granddaddy of partitions was British India in 1947 into India and Pakistan. 10 million refugees fled one direction or the other and it is estimated that around 1 million people were killed. I wrote my Ph.d. Dissertation about this event and have been tracking partitions since the late 1970s. It quickly becomes apparent that borders are inherently unstable. From the start of the SMO, I felt that Russia would consolidate control over the Russian speaking areas and possible take Odesa, and Kharkov, but that the Dnieper would become the boundary. We shall see.
