Does the US have a future?

Maybe not

It’s Sunday night here in Tokyo. And I need to go to bed early! So my post tonight is short - -but I hope meaningful.

China and the US are very different cultures. But China is developing, growing . It is a success story. The US? Its success is all on paper. Its failure also.

The United States has a population of 349 million. China has a population of 1. 412 billion.

Over the last decade, the US federal government has spent $3.1 trillion on foreign wars. Add overall defense spending and you get a grand total of $8.2 trillion. Over half of the Pentagon’s discretionary defense spending —54% —goes to private contractors, compared to almost zero for China. U S private contractors have a minimum profit margin of 10% —some critics say much higher, around 20%

Now, compare to China, which, of course, has spent nothing on foreign wars. China as spent just around $3 trillion on defense over decade, or about or about 35% of the US total.

Only about 10% of US defense spending goes to defense of the homeland. The rest goes to the US’s global reach and offensive capabilities. .

95%~98% of China’s defense spending goes to its borders and its Pacific Perimeter to counter the threat from the US and its allies. The US Federal government spent $1.21 trillion on infrastructure over the last 10 years. China spends $2 trillion to $3 trillion annually.

The numbers here are all ballpark figures — they are approximations. But no matter how you fudge them, the result is clear— the US cannot develop while wasting money on foreign wars and attempts at global domination. It is truly a Paper Tiger, because its resources and talents are all mortgaged and its wealth all on paper .

At some point we will have a true bonfire of vanities.
