Fortress Taiwan: Fail Fall, Fallacy
Yup, that’s a PRO-CHINA protest in Taiwan, some years ago.
The US sees Taiwan as an impregnable fortress/ base in line with its Global Maginot Grid philosophy, which Putin's success in the Ukraine is exposing as strategic lunacy.
You will seen reports online alleging China attempted to invade Taiwan in the 20th Century, specifically in the 1990s. There were skirmishes over islands, and missile tests before the Taiwanese elections in the 90s but no attempt to invade! China didn't have the resources for a D-Day type assault then. Nor the will. Today they still don’t have the resources for a frontal assault — but they can still take Taiwan at will.
Just, the will is not there. .
Taiwanese are Chinese and the Chinese don't want a fratricidal war. After all, it’s the PEOPLE’S republic. Taiwanese are part of the “People”.
This is the same thinking behind Putin's SMO, which is not a "war" int the classic sense, nor an "invasion" (despite what the MSM says). The Chinese won’t do war— by maybe, if they have to, an SMO.
The CPC's "one nation, different systems" policy is pretty clear. The Russians have their own version, of course -- and it works!
The Chinese have no quarrel with local representative systems, as we can see with Hong Kong which is doing quite OK — in fact, benefiting —despite losing ground to Shenzhen industrially, as a center of commerce..
The Taiwanese now need China's business more than China needs theirs. Just cutting off sand to Taiwan, hits local construction and development hard. Sand is as vital to modern infrastructure as water is to the human body.
The CPC still doesn't have resources for an American full scale amphibious assault. But why would it want to do that anyway, when the Taiwanese will see the light? Only the Americans think this way. Of course, the Yanks assume everyone thinks as they do — another major strategic weakness.
The MSM keeps on with rooty-tooty accounts that a majority of Taiwanese want independence. No, they want a comfortable life. This is the Age of Convenience. Nationalism loses against Consumerism except when there is existential threat, which is off the board in the case of the “People’s” republic!
Pelosi's visit encountered significant opposition in Taipei, downplayed, of course, by the MSM, which showed Taiwanese lawmakers kissing the ring, if not the ass.
Ordinary Taiwanese didn’t want her—or the arrogance that she represents. If anything, the US’s tunnel vision pretty much guarantees unification sooner than later.
What the Taiwanese hope for Life As Usual — which the Chinese promise -- in fact, offering Better Life Than Usual. They have been doing that on the Mainland — with impressive progress. Taiwan? Losing, losing, losing—as the US tries to move Taiwanese industry stateside. Will they take the Taiwanese population, too?
China offers a better deal. And , yeah, , people in Taipei will be able to watch porn just as they do in HK.
China DOES have the power to take Taiwan now -- if it wants, despite what the “West” thinks.
The exercises blockading Taiwan show this.
If they had to, the Chinese could wipe out Taiwanese air-defenses almost over night.
Then with aerial superiority, wipe out bases selectively. American strategy assumes as, the French did in 1940 a frontal assault -- or— as the Ukies did in February, something similar.
The Chinese have watched the Russians employ the lessons of SunTzu and John Boyd. Sudden strikes, as in martial arts, to vulnerable areas.OODA. Observation, orientation, decision, action, in an endless cycle.
So, Chinese troops on the ground, might not even be necessary initially at least. The Russians took on the Ukies at a 2:1 (perhaps greater) disadvantage. Like penises. It’s not how big it is. It’s how ya’ use it. And sometimes a tongue works better.
The Chinese, as the Russians did, would first cage Taiwan, destroy discrete military assets.
Caging the Island is in essence caging Taipei. Caging Taipei means the end of Taiwanese “independence” and a China friendly government. When the A/C goes off for lack of electricity, people get uncomfortable. When your island becomes a prison, you want out.If you can’t get out— you want amenities—as Al Capone got.
.
The Chinese will, as the Russians are doing, play the Long Game. The Americans, as they have always done, will play the Wrong Game.
For the West, there is no East—they are locked in a cultural and historical box and cannot imagine anything different.
