Marandi is an informed commenter on events in the Middle East.
In this video, he makes some very good observations which almost no one else as drawn attention to.
Smoke and Mirrors
The Israelis claim that their attack “achieved all goals”—and they successfully targeted and severely damaged Iranian radars, air defense and missile launch sites, bases, depots and production facilities.
I have argued in my two recent posts on this strike - that is was a failure. They did not actually do much damage to anything important.
I also suggested that this was a “test -run’. The Israelis and the Americans wanted to probe Iranian defenses and collect information on Iranian capabilities for a future attack.
So, what you read in the MSM is smoke and mirrors. Exaggeration, distortion, lies.
For example, as I pointed out, the Israelis say they used a hundred aircraft — but that does not mean a hundred strike aircraft—as you might assume. It means somewhere close to a hundred aircraft—including not only F15s, tankers—but also reconnaissance aircraft and support aircraft of various kinds. Nor does it mean they were all tasked with attacking Iran directly since part of this operation involved attacking military facilities in Syria.
Nor did the Israelis attack 20 targets in Iran. They had 20 possible targets and attacked 4 or 5.
Iran Holding Back
Professor Marandi notes that Iran did not use it most advanced air defense assets — but rather older, second tier air defenses to defeat the old Rampage missiles the Israelis likely used due to a lack of availability of the new Air LORAN missiles.
With a interception rate of over 90 % a few missiles were bound to get throw out of, say 80 or 100. So the Iranians lost a few radar sites — just a few— and suffered minor damage elsewhere. Four of their officers died — two of them likely in Syria .
An old HAWK anti-air missile site seems to have been destroyed. A S-300 air defense site showed some signs of disturbances but those might have been caused by the launch of its missiles. Three industrial buildings, allegedly used for solid fuel missile motor production, have been hit. But there have been no reports of secondary explosions at those sites which one would expect if fuel had been hit. Moon of Alabama
The Iranians have been preparing for Israeli and American attacks for 20 years with most of their capability underground—some of it under mountains. They are not going to show their hand for a feint.
In other words, the Iranians repelled the attack without showing what they can really do — and advantage in the event of a full-scale joint Israeli-American attack. Below the Iranian BAVAR 373 AD missile system designed to surpass the S300 and now upgraded, some say as an S400 equivalent. It apparently was not used.
The Israelis —and the Americans revealed a lot. Not just military tech — but weakness.
Professor Marandi’s Point
Marandi argues that American and Israeli supremacism does not permit them to admit their opponents could possibly be peers and defeat them — despite their defeats against Hezbollah, the Houthis, Hamas, and now Iran. So they must lie— first of all to themselves.
A corollary is that they cannot learn from their mistakes and will double down on their failures.
Iran will certainly respond — in its own good time - with a devastating strike—just to demonstrate their power. And also to energize the Arab Street. Goodbye King Abdullah.
Donald Trump may be a Zionist. But he can read the writing on the wall.

The point about this being a test to show Iran’s AD capability is a good one and I think makes sense.
If that is the case then the leak was a deliberate ploy to make the Israeli strike seem large to entice Iran to use their most advanced AD.
That failed.
The other theory was that this was part of a multi-wave strike with first intended to neutralize AD. Since the first wave failed, they aborted the rest.
I’m not sure which one is correct. In either of them Israel failed.
That said, I still expect a larger Israeli strike after the election (but likely before inauguration).
I am not sure if Donald Trump can read the writing on the wall. He does not even like reading! :)
