Starmer scapegoats...everybody...

but himself

In increasingly unequal societies like ours where the average person is essentially powerless to effect change—increasingly downtrodden— minorities are always at risk, especially when they are culturally coherent and productive.

As wealth increasingly flows upwards from the Many to the Few, anger and frustration builds.

How do people at the top manage to avoid revolution? One way is to encourage scapegoating, either within the society or without.

So it is that in today's UK those that run the country exploit discontent at the Bottom encouraging hatred to those who they think can’t fight back. Blame someone vulnerable for your lack of a job or poor healthcare or lousy housing….whatever.

Hatred is first externalized. People in other countries, who are represented as stereotypes, if not caricatures.

"Blame the Russians".

"Blame the Chinese"

"Blame Islam".

"Blame Africans".

The objects of blame have to be seen as alien . Somehow not quite human. The become symbols.

In the colonial period, people in the Middle East and Africa were useful and exploitable—and inferior — not quite human also.

Britain pretended to civilize them-- and even invited them to London to show them the superiority of the British way of life. Like dogs they could be house-trained. The British like dogs.

With the end of colonial times, it was harder to exploit these people abroad. The legacy of colonialism was war and death. Refugees looked to Britain to honor its promises of care.

They came to the UK and they worked hard and got ahead.

As time went by, there were fewer and fewer good jobs. But ordinary British workers felt entitled and were bitter when someone whose parents came from abroad got a job although they really just wanted to drink beer and watch football.

The British make a show of treating everyone equally, without discrimination. Yet “equal” does not mean “the same”.

British "democracy"?

Britain has always been society of social classes and castes, the high and the low—-and democracy, an ideal, an abstraction—in the end—a fantasy. to placate an atomized, alienated, disenfranchised, and politically neutered public

You are still defined by your accent. But only 3% of Brits speak RP (the Upper Class dialect)—which caused Tony Blair to hire a speech coach so he could speak London (Estuary) English.

In the 21st century, there is course left and right politically, but like the left and right hands of an ambidextrous person—the mirror image of one another —used with equal facility for the same purposes.

Labor and the conservatives both represent the same elites, the same post-feudal, post-colonial financial and corporatist interests.

So Keith Starmer is as pro-Zionist and Islamophobic and Russophobic as Sunak.

It is like Harris and Trump in the US— differences of style and appearance, not of policy. Bimbo or Bumbo. It’s the same.

That's why, when riots broke out with people scapegoating Muslims and immigrants, Starmer’s government was quick to blame the Russians, but not just Putin —also,the Far Right, Freedom of Speech—unregulated, uncensored social media, Elon Musk, anti-Zionist Palestinians, minority people in Starmer’s own party— including leftwing Jews. And refugees for wanting refuge.

It was wide and ever-expanding list.

Starmer had wider range of scapegoats for the incompetence of his government and the failure of its policies—essentially everyone except him and his.

The rioters were just scapegoating Muslims and immigrants for working hard and for the integrity of their communities, so there list was more limited..

The British media followed the Government’s lead. So, the rioters weren’t called “rioters”-- they were "protestors". And Muslims protecting their homes and mosques were “counter-protestors”.

Will the US collapse before the UK? They say the fish rots from the head down. Sometimes it just rots —all over. The United Kingdom is no more United than the United States. Something smells bad in both places.
