The last couple of months, the number of new subscribers has dwindled for me. I used to get up to 100 at a time, especially after one of my articles was reposted by a major blog— but recently only a few.
How can I improve this? I’m not looking for paid subscribers. I would like subscription to always be free with donation an option. But the more subscribers the better.
I am not very Substack savvy. So, if you have any good ideas, let me know.
I notice that a lot of my commenters have their own newsletters. Sharing your ideas may help them too.
Oh, got the splint off my finger today and stitches come out next week— but I’m still doing most things left-handed.

Zoo notes
One thing you learn in zoos is that very young animals have their own version of woke. But it’s not about difference—rather, it’s about what they share, the need to play, the need for warmth. The need for love. A kitten doesn’t define himself as a Kitten. A baby skunk doesn’t define himself as a Skunk. They are just young. When I was four, my mother said "You are four now so act your age". That went on every year for pretty much the next 30 years. “Act your age"
This month I will be 77. I hope I never grow up.
We are the only species apart from dolphins that remain young at heart until we die.
Don’t rage at the dying of the light— play! Oh, and buy me a coffee. Click here or on the picture/

Something on Japan's interactions with Russia would be very interesting. There's not a lot available, aside from meretricious corporate bullshit.
