Gather round children and I will tell you a tale.
A tale of two presidential elections.
You will think this tale fantastical but it really happened.
Election #1
The first election took place some years ago in a country that said it was a “democracy”. It’s called “the United States of America”, except that the states are almost never “united” and comprise a third of North America. It’s a kind of made-up country.
In this this country people are allowed to vote for one of two people, each representing one of two parties-- each of which represent a small number of very very rich people who own almost everything in the country.
These presidential candidates—differ in style but not much in policy— and people vote as directed by the media which is controlled by between half a dozen and a dozen very very rich people. This is called “freedom”.
Real information is available if people wanted to take the time to look for it. Most people prefer to shrug and watch sports on TV or Netflix. Remember this. Do as you told. Kids or adults. Do as you’re told.
The presidential electoral system in this fake country is very complicated
The rules, which are decided by very, very rich people in what is called “Congress” —make it hard to vote.
There are long lines for polling stations – especially in poorer neighborhoods. Many people question how the ballots are counted and processed. There are always rumors of fraud.
But in 2020 voter turnout soared! Over 62 %, Mail-in ballots made it easy.
Netflix income soared too. Is there a connection?
Of course, the President is not chosen by popular vote like you would expect — but by an arcane electoral institution known as the Electoral College which was originally designed to thwart democracy, just in case the “people” elected a person but the founders of the Republic didn't like! Say, Jill Stein. Which could ever happen. Stein is too sane to be President.
In 2020, despite a higher turn-out, Joe Biden won by just over 51%. The other person—I dare not say HIS name— lost by something over 48%. Statistically, that's almost within the margin of error. Almost.
He-Whose-Name-Cannot-Be-Spoken complained and did not immediately concede. BAD! Remember kids, you will be punished if you are bad.
His supporters claimed they had been cheated and they organized the protest which led to them occupying the capitol building. It was mostly nonviolent. And the only person who died was a protester who was shot by police for doing nothing.
But afterwards the newly elected president called this event an “insurrection” and many of the so-called insurrectionists ended up with long jail terms . His opponent was called a threat to democracy and he too ended up for the courts.
January 6th and the lies about the 2020 election, and the plots to steal the election, posed the gravest threat to our democracy since the Civil War.
But they failed. America stood strong and democracy prevailed.
But we must be honest the threat remains and democracy must be defended.
My predecessor and some of you here seek to bury the truth of January 6th. Genocide Joe SOTU address.
That's one election.
Election #2
Recently there was another, which took place in a (more or less) newly democratic Latin American country which used to be run by American controlled elites.
When it became democratic, socialists took over to raise living standards, teach people to read and write, improved healthcare, and give a version of direct democracy to rural communities.
Unfortunately, the country had a lot of oil which Americans coveted. Need I mention Iraq, Libya, currently Eastern Syria….
The ruling party wanted to use that wealth to improve the lives of ordinary people. The American government wanted to use it to improve the bank accounts of America's owners-- the very very rich people I mentioned earlier—who naturally believe that ordinary people shouldn't own anything—just borrow to buy — or rent.
The American government provided money and funding to opposition groups and support for violence in the streets. It imposed sanctions on the country -- and stole its overseas assets. 40~50,000 Venezuelans died. A lot of kids. See, kids— that’s what happens when you’re bad. You get sick and die.
This US of course claimed that the country was not a "democracy" and needed American "freedoms"-- so it could return to what it once was-- with the freedom to be poor, illiterate, homeless and (as mentioned) sick. Just like in America.
The ruling party In Venezuela —known as the Chavistas— installed an election system—probably the fairest and most transparent in the in the world-- with multiple safeguards, monitoring by both local and international observers, and recounts and auditing in the event of disputes. It made sure that public had easy access to polling station. It needed to prove it was democratic.
In 2014 and 2018 the US underwrote violent street protests. Color revolutions The “color” — blood red, of course. The MSM of course characterized it different — as they did with Maidan.
In the 2024 election, Nicolas Maduro, a bus driver how took over when Chavez died of cancer, ran for his 3rd term. His main opposition was Edmundo Gonzales, a retired former diplomat, who was a stand-in for María Corina Machado, a right wing politician who gained favor in the US starting with no less than George W. Bush.
She has been accused to all sorts of things –including treason and fomenting violent protests. Sabotage, savage attacks on Chavistas, although Machado was shielded from direct involvement.
She had steadfastly supported the US’ hybrid war on Venezuela and supported the ever so fraudulent Juan Guaido.
Right now, her supporters are rioting in the streets. People are being killed. Machado has not disowned them. The MSM thinks they are freedom fighters.
Remember how the Democrats tried to accuse Trump of treason for his alleged ties to Russia? Russiagate was an expensive farce. But Machado's involvement with the US is real.
If Edmundo Gonzales is a stand-in for Machado who was banned from running—. Machado is a stand-in for Tony Blinken and Joe Biden. A female Zelensky ,
She lost with just over 44% of the votes—but claims, without evidence, other than references to faked polls, that she got 70% of the vote.
Not all the votes are in. Results are still expected from some rural communities-- which always vote for the Chavistas.
Facts
When you grow up kids, you must learn to ignore facts
The National Lawyer’s Guild said….
The Venezuelan elections today were not only fair and transparent but also represented an example of popular civic participation. Their successful outcome is a triumph for the Venezuelan people, especially considering the level of US interference and attempted sabotage of the democratic process, particularly through sanctions and coercive economic measures aimed at producing ‘regime change’ in Venezuela,” said Suzanne Adely, President of the NLG and a member of the delegation.
During the delegation’s visits to polling sites, members spoke freely with voters, including supporters of both the government and the opposition. We found that voters across the board expressed strong confidence in the electoral system and did not note any problems or hindrances to casting their ballots.
The electoral system was highly transparent and well-facilitated, overseen by the Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), the fifth branch of the Venezuelan government, which manages the electoral process. The voting system in Venezuela, dubbed “the best in the world” by former US President Jimmy Carter, ensures both access to the polls and clear identification of voters, promoting a secure system that inspires confidence in the Venezuelan public. Notably, Venezuelans cast both an electronic vote and a printed paper ballot in order to verify electoral totals, a check that is performed automatically at 54% of polling locations, chosen at random. The machines and electoral processes functioned properly at each of the polling sites visited by the delegation.
The high level of security at the polls is combined with a commitment to accessibility for all Venezuelan citizens, the delegation observed. People with disabilities, small children and the elderly may access their polling station through fast-track lines. For people with special needs who require physical assistance to cast their votes, there is also a system called “assisted voting” that allows voters to either bring a family member or the president of the voting station into the voting booth to assist with the process, and the delegation witnessed two examples of assisted voting throughout the day.
Naturally, the US and its allies refused to recognize the legitimacy of the “best voting system in the world”. Although they do recognize the legitimacy of Ukraine’s un-elected “president” Vladimir Zelensky.
As a result, the Venezuelan electoral commission will likely enlist the Carter Center and do a full audit, which will show that much of those claims that Gonzales/Machado won the election are quite simply lies.
There is absolutely no way she could've won 70% of the vote. Not that she as officially running anyway. Gonzles-Machado — wham, bam, sham.
How predictable American propaganda! .
What will the Collective West do then? Ignore the results of course. And impose sanctions.
This is a sorry tale.
When we look at 2020, and the current election coming up this year, we must realize that the US is not a democracy. 2024 will not change things. Nothing will change without a revolution. A real one this time.
Many thanks to all who donated to the Chappy Fund
I got good response to my appeal to help me adopt Chappy. It inspires me. It reaffirms my faith in human goodness. And give me hope. It also energizes me.
The special report should be available by the end of the week. I am still sending out copies of American Borg to new coffee buyers. Contribute to the Chappy Fund by clicking here to buy a coffee. Or on the photos….
Chappy, by the way, is one of those cats who likes hammocks! Have to get one of those too.
I don't agree with your characterization of the electoral college; the EC was as the initial Senate designed to "firewall" the voter influence from one state to affect the outcome of another; particularly to protect the rights of smaller and/or rural states. Abraham Lincoln destroyed civil liberties and the founding fathers dream of a federalist society. He believed in a "central government uberalles" and said as much. He suspended the bill of rights and destroyed the states trying to leave the union. His Gettysburg address is a lie from the outset. The founding fathers wanted a federalist (states rights) republic. After the 17 amendment (direct election of the senate) , the electoral college is the last vestige of federalists government because it is still controlled by state government.
Very good article. The reality of a free country (Venezuela) and a smart one always with magic numbers to achive what they want. They, the rich, never the poors. THAnks Julian, your articles are always an inspiration.
