Diplomacy as soap opera

The Trump-Zelensky video is 48 minutes long.

The first 40 minutes is Trump playing Trump the Great Negotiator and Zelensky playing Zelensky the Hero of the Alamo— sorry — Ukraine. We have seen all this before— so it’s entirely predictable and really less interesting than some of the commercials on YouTube.

The drama in this political soap opera is saved for the end.

As a result, most of the media are only playing the last 10 minutes— where the conversation gets heated and Daddy Donnie gives Zelly a spanking.

Around 42:19, JD Vance, playing his assigned role as Robin to Trump’s Batman, calls out Zelensky’s obvious attempts to “litigate” (his word), rather than just being thankful to the US and Trump for saving his poroshki and signing the deal. It’s “disrespectful” he says.

It’s then that Trump gets hot, not perhaps having noticed what was happening before. Time to take command. “You’re in no position, to dictate what we feel” says Trump.

And: “You’re gambling with World War III”.

And Zelly, silly kid, tries to argue! No dinner for you, junior. No billion dollar allowance.

Acts and actors

Zelensky’s “act” had been well-received in the West until now— and still is— in London, some places in Europe and Canada.

But the US media are now growing tired of it. It’s not the outright lies and falsehoods about Russian “killings”, “broken promises”, and Putin as a “killer” and “terrorist” – bent on world-domination. Nor even the self-conscious military cosplay — those dreadful brown, green, and black fatigues.

It’s just gotten boring. The eighth Deadly Sin — and the worst.

Also the media doesn’t like Losers, which Zelensky obviously is.

This Press Conference was set up to showcase Trump as the Great Negotiator and a humble Volo’ — which, by the way, is Ukrainian for Vladimir, which if you think about it is a little embarrassing.

For the first 40 minutes, Trump didn’t seem to care about Zelensky’s act—probably the accent— but Zelensky made the mistake of trying to upstage him, even handing him propaganda photos of mistreated prisoners and children, as though the President was too stupid to realize that these were the photos we have all seen of Russian, not Ukrainian prisoners and blown-up kids in the Donbas. Come to think of it, maybe he is that stupid.

Zelensky howled his hatred for Putin and Russia throughout the conference— as though Trump did not realize that Putin was the new Hitler or Attila.

In a sense, he was talking down to Trump, who has made a public show of his “friendship” with Putin and the implied “respect” he enjoys from the Russian leader.

Trump, in the meantime, was playing his role. Neutral, sensible, a PeaceMaker, willing to listen to all sides— not “aligned” with anyone — rather “aligned with the United States and the whole world”.

Guess he’s angling for a Peace Nobel. Barak got one, right? And went on to make war.

I don’t think he was really paying much attention to what Zelensky was actually saying— that the “deal” should be for European and American military might to force Russia to withdraw its forces from all of Ukraine, including Crimea and the oblasts that voted with huge majorities to join Russia —and of course pay reparations—in other words, implementation of his “Peace Plan”. Things go better with coke?

Maybe Trump wasn’t but Vance was paying attention. From the official American point of view, there is only one Peace Plan —Trump’s. Likewise, there is only one Grand Negotiator— the Donald. And Zelensky should be take kneel for the deal. $500 billion buys a lot of lube.

Volo couldn’t stop talking.

So, after 40 minutes, Vance had had enough and decided to wrap everything up neatly — hitting the Trump Ego “button”. He attacked Zelensky, as I mentioned earlier, for attempting to “litigate” and said it was disrespectful to the US and to Trump personally.

Vance said, bluntly that Zelensky was in no position to make demands – that he had “no cards”. He was disrespectful and should be thankful to the US.

The Donald got his cue and he waded in….

Kiss my ass

It was a kiss my ass moment. My way or the highway.

Watch the video carefully, Zelensky gets the message — he looks chastened.

Trump finished by segueying to Russiagate and the Dems’ attempt to portray him as a Putin stooge, as if all the hate expressed by Zelensky for Putin and the Russians really comes from Hillary and Biden and their bunch. Putin Derangement Syndrome?

One must keep in mind that when Zelensky was elected it was on a promise to set things right with the Russians through compromise and negotiation. He changed course—because the real power in Ukraine is, as it has been since Maidan – the Banderites, whose fascist and racist ideology is ingrained— actually predating Nazism, going back to the 20s.

Does Zelensky actually believe his script? He doesn’t even speak Ukrainian – he speaks Russian! I am sure his wife calls him “Volo”, just as Putin’s friends call him “Volo”. Keep in mind that he is an actor.

If he didn’t follow the script as he did in this meeting, the powers that really rule “Ukraine” would have him killed.

So, he went with the Nazi narrative for Ukraine in the meeting, and got—predictably —‘trumped” . Now, no doubt, he will go back to Kiev and tell his handlers, “Well, I tried!”.

I suspect he wants the Russians to take over Ukraine, so he can escape all those hard men with their tattoos and live as an Exalted Exile enjoying the Billionaire’s Dream Life in London or Beverly Hills or the Riviera from season to season.

As for the minerals deal—not to worry—it’s still on. Zelensky has just given Ukraine’s assets to the Americans.

And, as I said, he hasn’t given away just “minerals”— it’s the whole country.
