Between 2010 and 2021, unilateral sanctions killed 564,258 deaths people each year – more than five times the number of people killed on an annual basis in military combat according to the Lancet and expanded upon by People’s Dispatch and Tricontinental.org.

And half of these were children — 250,000 a year.

People’s Dispatch writes that:

,,,while Western sanctions have the claimed aim to end wars, protect human rights, or promote democracy, they do the very opposite. By restricting a country’s ability to import essential goods like food, medicine, and medical supplies, and by slashing public budgets, sanctions systematically undermine healthcare systems and other vital services.

The unilateral coercive measures imposed on Venezuela have taken a devastating toll on most of the population, constituting an act of collective punishment and thus a crime against humanity,” Carlos Ron, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for North America, told Peoples Health Dispatch. “We could never know exactly how many lives could have been saved had it not been for these measures – state-led, partially or fully subsidized programs that distributed medicine for chronic illnesses, including HIV and cancer treatment, were affected.

The COVID-19 pandemic made everything worse, as sanctioned countries had trouble getting testing kits, vaccine materials, and vaccines themselves, which increased the health risks for children and the elderly. .

The most notable and outrageous case was that of COVID-19 vaccines, which Venezuela was not allowed to purchase using public funds held in its illegally frozen foreign accounts. At the onset of the pandemic, Venezuela could have easily bought all the vaccines needed for its entire population from these accounts, some of which remain frozen to this day,

Tricontinental. Org writes :

Unilateral sanctions by the United States and the European Union are more deadly than UN sanctions, with ‘US sanctions appear[ing] to be driving the adverse mortality effects’. This is because ‘unilateral sanctions imposed by the USA or the EU might be designed in ways that have a greater negative effect on target populations’.

1. The reason why US sanctions – with the EU alongside them – have such negative effects is due to the ‘widespread use of the US dollar and the euro in international banking transactions and as global reserve currencies, and the extraterritorial application of sanctions, particularly by the USA’.

2. The analysis shows that ‘the effects of sanctions on mortality generally increase over time, with longer-lived sanctions episodes resulting in higher tolls on lives’.

So the dollar is, among other things, an instrument of genocide.

If you are wondering why the West brushes off its responsibility for the Israeli genocide, it’s simple—for the West it’s business as usual.

My Last Post

My last post was a draft excerpt from my ongoing Special Article, still a work in progress (at 13,000 words)

So today I went over it what I published yesterday and fixed all the various errors and typos (omigod! so many) and rewrote whole sections, so it makes better sense. I will probably rewrite again. If you want to see what it becomes you will have to buy a coffee, if you haven’t done so already!

Why do I write stuff like this? It might seem over-philosophical to some, even academic.

But I need a way of framing the increasing delusionality of the West — of putting things in perspective. People blamed Biden for his dementia — now Trump for his narcissism— but it wouldn’t matter who was President. Is it the political “system”? Economics?

The problem is bigger —it is civilizational.

Or, if you like “cultural”.

This is a culture that cannot see the world as it is.

Russia can see. China can, too.

My current post on American genocides illustrates that point. The US makes Hitler look small-time as far as killing the innocent. In 1944, people near the ovens claimed they didn’t smell anything burning — didn’t know anything.

How many Americans have remarked on the deaths from sanctions?

When culture becomes a set of blinders, you are in trouble.
