Mike, I think it's also the best post of the week.

By the way, I watched threads last night and stopped after the nukes hit. I had seen enough since I saw it before. Another similar movie produced in the USA came out a couple of years earlier. The title is The Day After. I'm going to rewatch a portion of it as well since I saw it when it came out.

Crossposting is indeed the best like . I usually do not respond immediately to geopolitical events, as they pop up in the media as many others do. This is because a.) I'm not that smart b.) it takes my little brain some time to sort out all the contradictions and ironies forensically c.) it takes even more time to communicate my conclusions in some format that is readable and hopefully interesting. .

Crossposting in Substack is great . Crossposting to other blogs and websites on the Internet even better. One time, a long time ago, someone posted to a popular website which published the article and I immediately got 100 new subscribers !

It helps . So, to those who crosspost – thank you so much !

The average American probably hates his government – which doesn't listen to him or her. They probably don't realize that a lot of people abroad see their government is acting in the name of the American people. They are always saying that our day. So opposing American government leads to opposing American culture.

Zaluzhny had a serious cranial injury a few months back when the bunker he was in took a hit from a hypersonic missile. He was off getting reassembled for some time, bad CGI video of "Zaluzhny" were seen a few times rather than being present in public. What faculties might he have lost from that insult?

As far as Zaluzhny not being educated in ground combat, the ground war is effectively run by NATO "advisors" and his lack of abilities (or even presence, for several months) were of little consequence.

Zaluzhny relies on a 1941 textbook on Soviet military operations. Sadly, that textbook had to be revised in 1942

Expand full comment

I do not believe Zaluzhny is making finely granular tactical decisions on a front the length of the present line of contact. No single person really could-

Once again, the day to day tactical operations are being run by a crew of NATO officers/managers sitting someplace outside of Ukraine. And their real objectives may not always coincide with a glorious Ukraine victory ASAP.

Last post I tried to talk a bit about the deranged violence of Israel as we see it in Gaza, about the sadism and fear (and Israelis are far more scared and hence more hysterical) and the roots of Zionism in western Imperialism, and the role of 20th century fascism. About the pathologized character, altogether, of Zionists. But I think there are several related matters and they dove tail and overlap with this identification with the aggressor seen today in the West, but they are also about the contours of the new society being born. And culturally this marks a pretty dramatic shift in values and psychology. So this is to look ahead, and look back.

The stunning physical ugliness of the settler leadership cannot be ignored. These are people who believe fervently that they are ‘chosen’ by God, that they are superior to everyone else. Politics is being de-aestheticized in a sense (a new contra-Benjamin position). And all of this is mediated by electronic media. I am writing this for dissemination on a laptop computer. I read most (not all) books on computer screens today. Partly because I cannot afford to buy books. And even if I could, where are the bookstores today? J. Steppling

“The close link between Nazism and Fascism and attempts to block the historical process of liberation of colonial peoples that began with the October Revolution did not escape the most attentive observers at the time. It was not only the Communist International that defined Fascism as the ‘terrorist dictatorship of the most reactionary, the most chauvinist and most imperialist elements of finance capital’. In the same years, the future leader of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, observed that ‘a victory of fascism in Europe or elsewhere will strengthen imperialism; its retreat will weaken imperialism. Equally, the triumph of a liberation movement in a colonial or subject country is a blast against imperialism and fascism.’ Imperialism was certainly not coterminous with fascism. The then leader of an important national liberation movement ironized about Britain, ‘the greatest of the imperialist powers, posing as the defender of world peace while it bombs and ruthlessly oppresses subject peoples’. Such irony indicates an awareness that being consistently anti-fascist entailed rejecting imperialism and colonialism. It was no accident, stressed Nehru, if one of the British colonial empire’s most fervent admirers was precisely Hitler.”

Insightful article. Thanks for sharing.

One crucial thing that needs to happen is for people, especially Western citizens, to become aware of all the long-standing propaganda, change their long-held perspectives and beliefs, and start putting pressure on their respective governments to act responsibly, instead of prolonging the war by continuing to supply money and weapons to Ukraine.

"F-35's don't use a lot of fuel because they mostly don't fly." Quoted from "Annexing Ukraine?" by Julian Macfarlane. It is a cryptic crack that is true.

What I wish did not fly is the standard rhetoric of American Exceptionalism. For example, Senator Chuck Schumer gloating about the new almost 1 trillion dollar defense budget passed with bipartisan support. With our rancid politics bipartisan almost always means wretchedly bad.

The new defense budget (well, the House has not passed it yet, but they will) is going to devote $ to hypersonic weapons. If these weapons prove to be as effective as an F-35 I will be shocked.

Look, the U.S. lost its way when the Dulles brothers had way too much influence.

That we build weapons for trade shows (then profit!!!) should be the foremost thought of every voting U.S. citizen.

I am not shocked by these events. I foresaw them with the development of the Space Shuttle. That vehicle was poorly designed, poor performing, over cost to build and operate, and most importantly: dangerous! Remember the NASA BS about a 1 in million chance of mission failure? One of my probability professors wore a flack jacket to his dying days after his testimony to the Challenger commission of the odds were like 1 out of 13 was not well received.

I woke unusually early this morning after only 4 hours of sleep. I was awakened by a horrible nightmare. I dreamed my country America was being destroyed in nuclear fire. I need to stop watching dystopian post apocalyptic sci-fi. Damn! It was so real!

Then I find Julian's latest post in my inbox and on my Substack feed. The headline grabbed me. I immediately began reading it. McDonald's!? I DON'T EAT THAT SHIT!

Damn good article, Julian. You're right, Zaluzhny is a piece of Banderite Nazi Shit! On the other hand, achieving a STEM Degree and becoming World Heavyweight Champion is nothing to sneeze at. I bet he loved beating up n*****s.

I am helping our network wage peace. I love my country but hate my rulers who have a Nazi mindset. I hate my hate because I want to be a lover of love, hater of hate and seeker of truth. I'm like a cruise missile flying through the gaps, under the RADAR to deliver my payload of Love and Deeper Understanding. (I love Kate Bush) 😁

My government and Congressional Military Industrial Complex (CMIC) craves war and is always at war. It's like Orwell's 1984. He got the date wrong but we're approaching it. The way I see it is that the best thing to happen to my country the USA is to have it's ass stomped by Russia! Our nation really needs an ass kicking from Russia like the Soviets gave Nazi Germany with our help in 1945. It will be poetic justice since my government is controlled by Nazis.

Russia is well on her way to victory unless the idiots in control of our nation fire the first nuclear shot. Russia will still be victorious buy Europe and the USA will be annihilated. However, unlike the USA, Russia is much older and wiser. China is even older and very wise. Both Russia and China have suffered many invasions while baby USA only suffered one just after its birth in 1812. In the Russo - Nazi NATO proxy war in Ukraine the World Capital of Neo-Naziism NATO is being disarmed. Like Ukro-Nazistan NATO-Nazistan will end up surrendering to Russia.

I pray and believe Russia will be merciful.

Thank you again Julian...

There are 2 possible outcomes for Ukraine...

1. They wait until their military has to surrender and the whole of what is Ukraine at that moment will come under rule of a temporary government, orchestrated by Russia.

2. A change in Kiev will cause a government that seeks true negotiations, which can only happen when de NAZI's in and around Kiev are defeated or have fled.

In both cases there is the difficult issue of: "What to do with the legacy of half an age of CIA+MI6 attempts to turn Ukraine into a NAZI nest".

Russia will certainly have to prevent to get those cuckoos in their Federation, what they are meant to be, causing trouble uproar and informants.

So a split-off of the main Banderites-source, Galicia & Lviv from the rest is an option.

Probably Poland will accept those oblasts, which has been made easy, because of some Kiev-Warsaw deal, to join (part of) Ukraine to merge with Poland. In the peace-deal Poland would have to declare these province not to receive foreign troops or Military infrastructures (missiles).

Just my thoughts...

Alex

Splitting off Galicia and Lviv is indeed an option. But the Polish hate the Galicians and the Galicians hate the Polish. Also, as you say , Poland would have to agree not to host foreign troops or military infrastructure. And they would have to provide guarantees that are enforceable. Complicated – as are all options.

I keep hoping to open my morning news search with "breaking news" of a military coup within Ukraine. I would love to see the West have to defend it when their boy gets run out of town or dealt with in Gaddafi fashion. I wonder if HRC could be as giddy for Zelensky's demise. She is diabolical enough, I'm sure she'd get a little grin even if she had to hide it publicly.

The trouble is that the military coup could improve things – or make things worse – or not change anything. Musical chairs?

I suspect in the short run it would be musical chairs, but I can't imagine how much longer the Ukrainian people will tolerate the whining puppet Zelensky who has shown zero concern for the lives of his people.

Y ¿qué pasará con todas las "compras e inversiones" (a precio de ganga) que han realizado las grandes corporaciones en Ucrania??

Expand full comment

The investments in acquisitions and foreign companies have made in Ukraine would have to be surrendered to the Russians since the Ukraine would no longer exist, and agreements previously cannot be enforced. Since Russia is under foreign sanctions it no obligation to honor Western financial law, which the West does not follow in its case in any event.

Two things have certainly been clear at least as far back as Wagner's fight in Bakhmut. 1) While the Ukrainians flounder with no real strategy, the Russians slowly and patiently dig in to create near impregnable lines of defense to hold what they have. (They did this as the West reported Russia wasn't accomplishing anything on the battlefronts. After all, they couldn't even "take" Bakhmut.) 2) With that strategy and the complete lack of one on the Ukrainan side, all the Russians have to do is wait for the obsessed president and his generals to pour their poor troops into the meat grinders that gain Ukraine nothing but dead soldiers and destroyed Western equipment. As Ray McGovern put it so well months ago, "Atrit, atrit, atrit." Furthest thing from the now proclaimed stalemate as the same successful tactic grinds on. And the West's "leadership" in all this? Best summed up by Alexander Mercouris, "They are mediocrity who think themselves geniuses."

Julian, you are exactly right, "The Russians want a long slow war which demilitarizes and debilitates not just Ukraine but NATO as well-- while Russia grows stronger."

Well, I don't know if they "want" it, but they have accepted it as the best way to atrit the Ukraine military out of existence and show NATO/US/EU for what they are--brutal incompetents who continue to wreak their citizens' own best interests in some perverse obsession with President Putin.
