A lot of people say grace before they eat giving thanks for the food. Some dogs do, too.
Seems to me, before I publish, which I will do again today I should give thanks too—not for food – but for coffee and fellowship.
Once again, a big thank you to all those who bought me coffee recently and sent me encouraging comments. Woof!
I'm going to be 78 this year.
In my early 60s my career was going very well—and I was counting on retiring—going back to o Canada in my early 70s. I have always lived very simply. I don't own a car. I don't own a house. I invested my money I thought carefully on the advice of family and trusted advisors. And lost it all!
Bad news! No retirement! No Canada!
Good news! No retirement! No Canada!
And Roger Waters is still singing at 80!
I am still working. I howl at the moon – make a little money here and there, from time to time doing voiceovers, consulting, and writing PR. I make do.
As I said, I have always lived very simply, hand to mouth since I was 17 or 18. So I don’t need much. Except health. And animals. And trees.
Near where I live there is a big park with a wooded area where I can do “shinrin yoku”—” forest bathing”—by which the Japanese mean imbibing the essence of nature—a tradition inherited from the Yayoi people circa 300 BC and part of Shinto tradition.
As I said, I don’t drive. I also don’t use subways. I walk or cycle. I have what I need.
I think I am very lucky.
Throughout my life so many people have helped me! So now I am trying to give back something. I need to say thank you for just being alive.
Whereas I used to use my talents to make money for the future, the future is already here so now I use those talents to try to somehow make things better. I'm clumsy. My attention is all over the place. I'm dyslexic. My deficits notwithstanding – I have a voice.
You do too. You may not think so—but you do. Each voice is special so we each have to find our own.
In this chaotic world, with so much pain and suffering, let us all speak out. A million small voices swells in a chorus of hope. In the darkness, the song resonates. With hope comes joy. And the sense that no one is alone.
Let us leave no one behind.
I have not yet written replies to my coffee buyers. That takes a bit of time, since I write individual messages to each person. Nor have I written my special article since events in Ukraine, the Middle East, and elsewhere are moving so fast. That will come soon.
Once again – thank you. Also, to those who write comments to my articles. I learn so much from you.
Special thanks to the folks at Southfront once again the big thing for whom I do volunteer voiceovers and give me with a lot of extra information. Example below—my voiceover of the video “Axis of Resistance”. Which perhaps you should view before reading my next article, which I hope to publish today.
And thank you for being you, JUlian
Good voice!
