Many thanks
Kindness counts
Many thanks to all those people who bought me coffee, responding to my post about having my Canadian pension suspended. I wasn’t asking for that outreach- I was really just trying to find meaning in upsetting bureaucratic idiocy and connect it to the bigger picture.
So this outpouring of kindness was deeply appreciated.
It restores my faith in the humanity of humanity —that there are people out there who care, who read realities, who feel. .
As I get older, I ask myself always what is really important. I think it is the sense of community we create through compassion and care for one another.
I am (2e) autistic as you know, so while I have been offered very good jobs in institutions or corporations, I have always been a freelancer, a gig worker, or if you like a “portfolio careerist I was very good at it. And made a lot of money— and of course lost it, betrayed by someone I trusted and my own misjudgment. That money was supposed to be my pension.
It was shattering. But I realized that I had lost my way somehow.
Yes, I may have |”trusted too much”.
But then I remembered that throughout my life, it was strangers who helped me, who offered inspiration and direction, that when I thought myself alone, I never was.
So, I have been lucky: I am still alive, healthy, and I have the ability to at least try to “give back”. I no longer write under pseudonyms I write as “me”— whoever, whatever that is!
So the support I get here on Substack, confirms I have made the right choice. What do I need most in life as I age?
To be useful. To care for what matters. To share the little that I have.
And to say: thank you my friends.!

My wife and I, we are not well-off. Myself? Due to chronic illness, I am unable to work and receive a pension below the poverty line. Unfortunately, I cannot support you, Julian. Friends? True friends? The person who has the rare fortune of having such people around him is an extremely rich man. You surely understand what I mean by that.
On Friday, in the late afternoon, my wife and I each bought ourselves a delicious ice cream at the ice cream parlor. As we were eating it, my wife spotted an old, very poor, mentally ill, but harmless man sitting alone on a stone bench. My wife pulled me by the arm over to him and asked him whether he would also like to eat an ice cream. She wanted to treat him to an ice cream. The poor old man looked at her with wide-open eyes, speechless. All people avoid him because he is mentally ill and always wanders around alone in the same dirty clothes. He could only answer, frightened, completely surprised and stuttering: "Yes." So my wife bought him a delicious ice cream and handed it to him with a smile. As we left him, my wife said to me that she is now very happy. I replied to her that she is so happy because she has just given herself a beautiful gift.
I have asked you to include Paypal, great to buy you coffee! Please do.
