You wrote another great post. Crony Capitalism and Patrimonial Capitalism moved 60% of the wealth of the Middle Class to the Oligarchs in the period from 1977 to 2007.

I lived in Nagoya in the 60s, and see that little has changed, thank God.

Fab article in its own right, I'd already read Cook's, and I'm grateful for the Media Lens link.

Will never visit a dolphinarium. 'Blackfish' is one of my favourite horror movies.

In a couple hundred years the Japanese will be fecund again, just let natural selection do it's thing. Aging population is only a problem if you are old, so in the broader picture it's not actually a problem.

if natural selection does Its thing human beings as we know them today may not exist.

Eventually, yes. In the short term we are being selected for high fertility traits. The main things we have to worry about is the population explosion in Africa and some other places (Japan not so much). The Boomer lifespan is a concern too, it's a freakish aberration but if it continues they may drag us down with them.

The whole tragedy of Japan is that it's been Americanized. That the so-called elite who hold the reins of power are no longer Japanese in essence, but American. This is also Europe's tragedy. Humanity's worst catastrophe since the dawn of time was the emergence of the American nation at the end of the 18th century. The United States is the plague and cholera of world history.

The USA inherited the mentality of empire from its mother Britannia and the Nazi mentality from its colony Duitcheland. Because of this the USA is the world's foremost terrorist state.

Americanization works differently in Japan than in some other countries. Japanese have a long history of taking foreign ideas and ways of doing things and adapting them to their own culture.go to Starbucks in Japan for example, and it is different from one in the US or Canada. It has been Japanized. A lot of foreigners come here and feel comfortable – until they discover that Japan is definitely not the US of A. Kind of like foreigners come here and marry a Japanese woman. Then realize how different Japanese are! Corporate ex-pats in Tokyo who belong to the American Club often have not the faintest idea of the country their living in or the people and their culture. It is not a matter of language. Some foreigners speak excellent Japanese and still do not understand the Japanese.of course it is also true that the Japanese do not understand themselves.

Let's give Japan credit for women in school outfits :)

As on porn hub Mike?

😂😂😂😂😂

As in me trying to be mischievously and culturally ambiguous. Nothing against porn's essence, but it's over-the-top-ness tends to follow American-styled democracy. Regarding Porn Hub, since you mentioned it, I'm against those bastards for keeping up photos of women they knew were targets of revenge. Do what thou wilt with consent!

Ok Julian

You have started to talk about things that you know, which is Japan and how things work there. Now I am really interested. When you were talking about things that you did not know, it felt like a "Me Too" moment, and my reaction was why should I read Julian MacFarlane when I could just go to the horse to find out what was happening. Now I am considering moving to a paid account. Not sure yet, as I have a limited budget, and can only pay for so many substacks.

That actually brings up something. We need to have substack group accounts that can be subscribed to, as I would like to be able to support a larger number of writers, and have a limited budget.

I already liked Julian but a group account is a great idea.

There is a civilizational crisis here. The western religion of Profits over everything is destroying the ecology that supports life as we know it and depleting natural resources, destroying our ability to maintain civilization as we know it. Profit politics is destroying our ability to change our fundamental civilization as we know it into a life-sustaining civilization.

That is all.

Ahhhh, nothing like Shinjuku Park in early April. The white and pink cherry blossoms in full bloom, the park full of people, and the oddity being ladies decked out in turn-of-last century dress.

I live close to Shinjuku Park, within walking distance. I avoid it in cherry blossom season.Too many people. But attached to the lawn area is a wooded area with lovely trees and if you walk a little bit a beautiful Japanese garden.
