Like many of you, when I turn on my computer, I immediately click on the Duran and Sonar 21 to see what the Two Alex’s and the One and Only Larry have to say. They are insightful and informed, and almost everytime I read them, I learn something—not just facts—news—but innovative ways of looking at things..
Today, however, I was surprised to see Alex Mercouris and Larry Johnson devoting time to analysis of an NYT article .
As Russia Advances, U.S. Fears Ukraine Has Entered a Grim Phase
Now, of course, Larry and Alex are using the NYT’s ‘information” as a jumping off point for comments on Russian progress in the Ukraine and Ukrainian defeat and other matters.
But frankly, the NYT was merely regurgitating a mess of propaganda stuff all over the digital sidewalk, which have been rebutted now ad nauseum. Hard to jump on that slippery mess.
( Ad) Nauseum indeed. Barf! Barfogical analysis?
Since when has the NYT been a credible source of anything, except (maybe) sports news? Or the weather? Wait– forget the weather – they get THAT wrong too! OK,maybe they had some credibility a hundred years ago.
Joking aside, Larry and Alex are wasting their fine analytical talents on NYT nonsense. They might as well be parsing the National Enquirer.
At least the National Enquirer does not pretend to be anything but what it is. And it is more fun.
Sorry Alex. Sorry Larry. Alt Media needs to be “Alt” - not “Additional”.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. No,Edmund Burke did not say that. Rather John Stuart Mill, who said something like it.
I would revise it. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for intelligent men to act as if fools and liars are can be reasoned with”.
Believe me: the Gray Lady is full of fools and liars. Journalistic crab lice.
Alex and Larry might feel the need to do this because a lot of people read the NYT and take it as the Word of God and they need to set the record straight.
Since when did rational argument make any difference to True Believers? And the people who pay to read the NYT (this article, however, was not paywalled) usually don’t read Larry and Alex or dismiss them as being in the pay of the Russians.
The Bible is the Bible.
NYT supporters will tell you that besides the NYT doing God’s Will, NYT DIGITAL subscriptions have actually risen making up for a drop in its print subscriptions —by about half from 2014.
The Gray Lady now has 10.2 million paid subscribers.
But that is out of a potential readership of over 300 million Americans and another 100 million or so in the Anglosphere. And just for context, PornHub, Canada’s onluy valid cultural institution got 42 billion hits last year!
Rebutting the NYT for things already proven false a hundred times before is a waste of time, which could be better spent on other things. PornHub maybe
Worse, making the effort to rehashed the hash implies (to some at least) that the NYT is real journalism rather than a cheap trick for the powerful.
As far as journalism is concerned — I know whereof I speak. My grandfather began as a newspaper man before moving to the law. My father was a newspaper man. As a child, newsrooms were a second home. And I worked in the media in almost every capacity for over 30 years. I was even headhunted by CNN. (Turned them down).
Is the Lady a Tramp?
I’m not sure what the Gray Lady is. But I am certain she is no “lady”.
She does what she does for the money. Good sex workers do too — but they have rules. They don’t kiss you on the mouth. And they use condoms. They also often do it because they are good at it.
So, the NYT is not even a good whore. She DOES kiss you on the mouth. And she doesn’t use condoms —because she doesn’t care about your health. And she isn’t good at it.
For years now, we have seen the NYT a pimped by a sleazy cabal of government officials, politicians, and the rich. Maybe she once had a soul. Not anymore — that was auctioned off to billionaires years ago.
She makes Americans feel good — or at least indifferent — about killing millions of innocents. Think: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, now the Middle East. She has no shame.
Of course, it is harder to anesthetize the public to the agony of Gaza. Instead she exploits the pain“Oh, how awful.” But she does not stand against the Genocide as genocide, because that would taking a stand against the Democratic Party, which is owned by her pimps. As I said— no shame.
In the Old Days, print media were never ubiquitous or immediate — unlike internet media. Nowadays, anyone can be a journalist. That’s good because we all have a stake in discovering the truth of things.
It is indeed a “Global Village” , with everyone talking at once. Information cannot be controlled or manipulated as it once was — hence recent governmental attempts to control what is said online.
If governments in the West had their way, there would be no Alt Media, except for “approved corporate-owned” things like Facebook. No “Alt” — only “Additional” — if you could pay the subscription fees.
These attempts at censorship will fail. The digital universe is bigger than Google or Facebook. It is heterodox — a technological and sociological heterarchy, as I explained in my recent special articles—a return to fundamental human social connections—the kind we had before we all became cogs in giant machines.
While all machines eventually break — and all top-down hierarchical systems eventually become incestuous and fail, organic systems adapt and inherently diverse heterarchical systems evolve.
NYT is a Dodo
The Dodo did not die because it was hunted to extinction, contrary to popular opinion.
It died out for many reason— but largely because of destruction of its habitat and ecology. It was an island create and too narrowly adapted.
The media world has its own ecology—which is changing.
The NYT no longer fits.
Yes, the Gray Lady has a long history. Illustrious —in the past. But it now that’s all it has. As the saying goes” it’s history”.
Let us hope that Larry and Alex use their immense talents more productively. They cannot do that if they spend too much time reading the NYT, WaPo, FT, the Economist, the WSJ— and all the rest of the Media Hydra. Many heads, one voice.
Keep on reading Larry and Alex. I will.

Chappy loves this toy. I will buy him a couple more. He is a very playful boy.
Please support Chappy and Ichi (and me too) by buying us coffee HERE.
Other than the weather, I ignore the msm. Better things to do with my time!
I do think it is interesting to see when the NYT starts to back away from some of its bullshit, when it becomes obvious that it has been spewing bullshit. I sincerely doubt that the Duran used the NYT as a starting point.
