"The US simply cannot keep up. If only because it lacks brainpower." So true! As our "diplomatic" talking points become more imbecilic by the day, I'm left pondering the degree to which Joe and Jane Public have completely either tuned out politics altogether or completely outsourced their brain to their pundit(s) of choice. It seems, sadly, that both things can be true in the same lazy and propagandized mind--easily tuning out reason and accepting the lies.

This is sad because the US DOES have some very smart people. Seems to me, however, that this culture in its current form aims at dumbing down the intelligent dialectical discourse that is the foundation of creative thought.

Indeed! Ponder the possibilities if Jeffrey Sachs, Chas Freeman, Phylis Bennis and such at least were given voice in MSM let alone what might be accomplished in an administration. Yet what we get are Blinken, Nuland, Pompeo, Bolton, et.al. So sad and so dangerous.

American politics has become intrinsically and unavoidably corrupt in nature, thanks to the perverse structure of the financial systems needed to achieve election. Corrupt thugs are unlikely to create a political system that is smart, rational, knowledgeable, or effective.

Very impressive assessment, put the spot on the shadow. I like Larry and Andrei. Like Ton Verso, I notice that they are more and more political commentators. You cannot publish every day and going deep. For me it's OK but you cannot limit your source of information and knowledge. News Forensic is mandatory for freeing your mind and get informed. Andrei as to relax and keep us informed about Russian military and stop to be obsess by the American human assets in the "free world" manicure and blackmail by the CIA for 80 years and put in command of almost all international organisation including UN. Democracy is a control system but a weak one especialy design to be easy to control by oligarchs and USA is full of that species. In time of war it's very hard to convince someone but you must keep informed the peoples who are open mind.

I am definitely not a Republican. But I love Larry. I love Andrei's outspoken (but well-informed) rants also. But there are a LOT of smart people out there -- certainly smarter than me. That said, even the smartest people miss something sometime. (I certainly do). My commentors here and on SouthFront where I also publish keep me on my toes.

Excellent synopsis of weaponry, strategic alliances, tactical strengths that a non-military person can understand. The growing China-Russian partnership is poorly appreciated by American public. China is clearly stepping up onto the international stage as a powerful force. US is losing its superpower status but acts like it is unaware of that.

Is this insanity, stupidity, or deliberate destruction of US for Agenda 21 and NWO reset? US nationalism could be seen as obstacle to overcome for a Satanist totalitarian goal. But I suspect the globalists have miscalculated the outcome based on the new Russia-China- Saudi-Iran-India alliances. The new cooperation between Iran and Saudi happening as defense against the western hegemony takes priority over Islamic tribal conflicts.

It seems delusional to diminish the writings of people with actual experience in favor of those who watch a lot of Hollywood and seem hellbent to spout slogans, get others to fight their fights and obviously spend too much time with video games. Pretty pictures are not coming out of the trenches in Ukraine. There is always someone faster, better equipped or smarter. Are we dying for others profits or to save something worth dying for? US code breakers discovered the Japanese were calling Midway "AF," and we knew when and where the next attack would be. We also knew about the feint to Attu and Kiska in the Aleutians, and sent a small force there to counter. Meanwhile, Admiral Nimitz sent 3 carriers NE of Midway to set a trap.

The Saker taught much to many. You're correct: he is missed.

The role of code breakers is vastly underestimated. They also thwarted the invasion of Port Moresby. The Americans set a trap in the Coral Sea. Just think how huge the Pacific Ocean is and yet the Americans were waiting there and they knew the route of the Japanese.

I have stopped reading Larry and Andrei. I generally skim their articles. But they have become essentially political commentators and very repetitious at that.

This article is masterful military analysis.

Thank you.

I like both Larry and Andrei. Martyanov has some good information on Russian tactics and weaponry. And he is enjoyable to listen to, with his palpable disdain for the American military and media. Larry has some good insights. But neither Larry Martyanov are on the mark all the time. Which is satsifying because neither am I! Fortunately my commentors keep me informed. LOL.

I wish I didn't know that. Yes.

I'd disagree. I'd say it is more about America's ability, or lack of same, to project global economic power backed by a military iron fist. I suppose thus is a chicken or egg question, but our one percent buys politicians wholesale, not the other way around. And both, of course, are downstream from culture.

I find Larry valuable for his relatively current personal knowledge and understanding of the Hall of Mirrors that is the CIA and the National Intelligence establishment. As for Andrei, I gained considerably more respect for him after reading his books. He maybe off here and there, but I know a very few commentators with his breadth and depth of knowledge of both American and Russian militaries.

As an American i sadly see how we r sinking in the mud. Once we had a great nation and now we r fading. The mutton heads are so brain dead they cant even see the wolves on the horizon.

It breaks my hear that ore demise is sooooooooooo close.

I guess we deserve it. I am old but worry about my children and granschildren.

If there is a God out there (I doubt it) the Lord have mercy upon us .

I am Canadian-British. Like most people of that generation, now on the extinction list, I was raised believing the American Dream. Nowadays, it is the American Hallucination.

Taiwan seems more like a porcupine to me. The Pearl River Delta Megacity is way more valuable than the island of Taiwan. China making noise about attacking it is simply to make the stupid US policymakers expend treasure to push back on it (like the US Navy's operational tempo, which has totally exhausted its sailors)(do you want guys with 5 hours of sleep a night for 2 years handling nuclear weapons? I don't!).

Excellent article.

The problem with Chinese technology is that it is USA's 2.0. The ''borrow'' them from USA!

Isn't that problematic?

Also, is Taiwan getting close to detonating a fissile material?

Expand full comment

Is Chinese tech USA 2.0? Good point. It used to be. But US sanctions and Chinese needs have done for China what sanctions and independent needs did for Russia. A good example is cars. Lacking manufacturing experience in gasoline consumer vehicles, the Chinese just leapfrogged to EV, developing a whole range of new technologies. The Chinese J20 is not the F35 or F22, it is built with a different philosophy and roles in mind. The Russians, who, by the way, invented stealth technology, have the Su57, which Americans poo-poo as not really 5fth generation. Again, it is built to different specifications, really as technology test bed. In computer chips, the US claims a "two generation" lead. But that is not human generations -- it is tech generations, which are rather different. China is cut out of conventional sub nano silicon chip manufacturing, so it leapfrogging again to optonics and graphene, focusing on AI. Check out Godfree Roberts work in this area.

Chinese defense tech is way ahead of ours, mostly because they spend 4x more $ on R&D than we do and they have more and better mathematicians and engineers. Waaaaaaaay more.

Expand full comment

Yes, I think I mentioned that China leads in the 44 key technologies, according to a an Australian think tank, which says 37. I count at least 40, For example, China used to be behind in mRNA, but with their new COVID vaccine, they are on a par -- or perhaps better.I am old enough to remember when the US had a home appliance industry. The Japanese took over that simply by better engineering and design and then moved on to cars.

Another lie you need to address. Viruses are from "Germ Theory"....it's a theory. Viruses have never been proven to exist. Just take 18 minute to watch the video or peruse the second Canadian link:

https://odysee.com/@drsambailey:c/the-truth-about-viruses:a

https://www.fluoridefreepeel.ca/what-the-hell-is-going-on/

The only pathogens that can make you sick are bacteria, fungii and parasites. Weapons to kill can be made with the above organisms and also with proteins and chemical toxins. I'm not anti-vax but there is no covid vaccine because there is no "isolated" virus....as mentioned, no such thing as a virus.

Off topic if I may:

Such forensic analysis of Russian air defense systems in Syria is long over due.

Given Israeli bombing with impunity, either those systems are not as good as reported, or Russia refuses to share the technology with Syria.

Expand full comment

The Russian gear is there to protect Russian assets. The rest is under Damascus' control.

Expand full comment

I do voiceovers for SouthFront on Syria on a regular basis and have a lot of contacts in the ME thanks for previous work for Japanese corporations in the ME and North Africa. From my point of view, you are quite correct. The ME is complicated and messy. Russia is not going to over-extend as the US might in that region. It has, as it were, a geopolitical "brand", which is based on non-interference and support of local autonomy rather than domination. What the Syrians have in AD matches their current needs, without upsetting the status quo. This approach offers no immediate benefits but in the long term it works. So now you say rapprochement between Syria and other Arab states. The American presence in Syria is unsustainable in the long term, as it is in Iraq. Israel is increasingly a pariah state.

Expand full comment

With due respect for your expertise, I don’t understand what you mean by

“What Syrians have in AD matches their needs…”

Their needs do not include stopping Israeli bombing with impunity when and wherever itt wants.

Also, if I may, how does one reconcile the contradiction between Russian massive military ground support for the Syrian government and little AD support?

Thank you

Expand full comment

Good comment. To answer, I will have to do some homework, namely to check the extent and nature of Russian ground support and the exact extent and nature of AD support. My impression was that Syrian interception rates were pretty good, despite the sophistication of Israeli technology -- but that is an impression, and I don't have data to back it up. Let me get back to you on this.

Precisely and well said. Democracy, Free-dumb, it's all propaganda. Hegemony means you do whatever it takes to stay on top. It's so naive for people to think "civilians" matter.
