Behind the Mexican restaurant nearby is a black cat hanging around. It's been there for some time when I first encountered it as a kitten. It's very sweet and affectionate. There are some mobile homes nearby and the cat might belong to a family living in one of them. It seems to want to adopt me and the cat ladies in my life are urging me to adopt it.

I'm torn. I live in my camper with my dog but my dog loves cats! I'm trying to figure out the logistics and have found solutions. In the meantime I'll feed and care for the cat. I bought food and dishes. The owners of the restaurant have given me permission.

Oh boy.

As for your post, you're dead on Julian!

If your dog is OK, should be fine. Cats don't take up much space. But you need to get it dewormed and vaccinated probably. How large is your camper?

It’s the vaccines and de-worming. Food and water is great, but unless he gets his vaccines, he’ll be behind the 8 ball with his health. So it’s important he gets his rabies, distemper, etc.

They are so independent you won't even notice him. Five cats ( I have) are easier to take care, and less needy, than one dog!

I've had many cats over my lifetime and know what you mean. All the dogs in my life got along with the cats because the cats teach them to respect them. Some of the dogs ended up loving the cats and they would play together. It's hysterical when they do! We had multiple cats and they also played together with the same results.

Exceptionally correct on all your info Julian.

In my life my husband and I have had 24 cats. What I always do is keep them apart for a week. The cat (at home) comes and sniffs under the door of a room where new cat is/new cat does the same.

NO problem when the new cat is let out.

I have a tiny apartment. Just two rooms . One with a kitchen and computers. The other with a bed. So I have invested in a LARGE cage in the first room for Chappy with toilet, hammock bed, etc. Ichi can see him and sniff. Chappy is a colony cat -- so gets along well with others. Ichi was raised with 3 adult cats and his sisters. I am sure he will be fine. He's a very social cat.
