Interesting that China and Russia have reached more or less the same conclusion: capitalism is a good servant but a terrible master.

Meanwhile "the West" is enslaved by the religious belief in selfish dog-eat-dog beggar-your-neighbour free enterprise. According to which it is morally wrong to help anyone else.

" Interesting that China and Russia have reached more or less the same conclusion: capitalism is a good servant but a terrible master." As usual, you sum it up beautifully! I am naturally in awe.

It’s a convenient division of labour, Julian. You do all the hard work - researching, writing, explaining, dotting the “i”s and crossing the “t”s - then I come along and offer a crude general summary in one sentence.

I must be an LLM!

This is an absolutely brilliant quote. I'm stealing another from a beloved Italian dark comedy movie: "92 minutes long standing ovation"

You may be familiar with the old joke "where there's a will, there's a lawyer" - well just by coincidence, Mr. Putin is indeed a lawyer ...

Besides, by securing State control over strategic industries, Russia and China made sure they won't end up hostage of self serving private interests, as it happens in the USA where some very wealthy individuals effectively rule over the country. The US administration and military can't live without Starlink; Elon Musk can absolutely live without the US. OpenAI and ChatGPT have become essential for the Pentagon, so Altman and his likes are able to spend absurd amounts of taxpayer money at will with no scrutiny. And then there's pharmaceutical companies, aerospace conglomerates, the defence industry, and more, all sucking the country dry because if they go belly up, the entire system will fall with them.

"He who can destroy a thing has the real control of it", to quote Paul Atreides. US can't destroy its lobbies, so it has no control over them. The lobbies can destroy the US, so they have full control of it.

Julian - I found your article to be very meaningful - "Russia and China exemplify rulership by its own people and FOR its own people!" - is how I categorized it.

Kudos!!!

The main reason of most Western financial failures are through cronism & corruption. A true meritocracy is surely a fairer more balanced way forward. It certainly seems to working for Russia as well as China. While at best the West is stagnent. Or the vast majority of citizens in Western countries, are watching standards of living in free fall. As a family me & my wife are the 1st generation in our families to own our own house. We've worked hard our whole lives to get to where we are today. It makes us appreciate & enjoy what we have. It isn't massive by any stretch but we are very happy.
