Zelensky: Hero or Villain? Corrected

Note: One of my commenters kindly corrected me on my comments on antisemitism, where my research was a bit sloppy.

No — Jews were not lynched like Blacks in the US. But there was a still a strong vein of antisemitism in prewar America— as in other countries including Canada. It is more correct to say that while America didn’t like Jews, it “tolerated” them.

Jewish education and skills made them useful.

Similarly, Zelensky is tolerated by the Azov Neo Nazis — because he’s useful, not that he has intelligence, education or skill.

It’s an image thing.

Good PR. Doesn’t mean the Nazis like him or accept Jews in theory. For the Azovs, they are like bugs. They are OK if they are not too many. And Jiminy Cricket is cute, as a character. Zelensky is their Jiminy.

He’s OK as long as he supports them.

Hitler had HIS Jews too—for example, Mischlinges Field Marshal Erhard Milch and General der Flieger Helmuth Wilberg who he simply declared “Aryan”.

Corporate Media Royalty

In politics, we launder money.  In the corporate media-- -- we launder evil and violence. 

Americans are bored easily.  The adrenaline rush from viewing blood and guts wakes them out of their stupor. As long as there is no threat to themselves, it is exciting and despite their claims of horror and shock, perversely pleasurable. They always want more.

In this we are similar to the Romans, who had bread and circuses. In their stead, our blood-soaked empire has Big Macs and Hollywood.

The Romans had a republic like the US. A plutocracy just like ours. 

All plutocracies are fundamentally aristocratic, based on rights conferred at birth, maintained in the final analysis by exploitation and violence.  The Few always fear the Many.

The corporate media is also a plutocratic institution —controlled by wealth and power— in its outward manifestation and public roles a kind of royal family. 

The New York Times is the Queen, Time Magazine is the King, the Atlantic and Newsweek are bastard offspring. The WSJ and Bloomberg and FT are pervert princes. Journalists are knights and whores. The public bows and kisses the ring. So it is that an upgraded tabloid, the NYT is seen as Authoritative on almost everything, despite it churning out fake news—and of course “Events” which show the flag and bolster credibility with discussions between people who all share the same twisted points of view.

Feudalism never died. It evolved.

WTF?

“F” is for “Fucked”. And “Farce”  

If you thought my graphic was far-fetched, consider the NYT’s first article on Hitler in 1922 which downplayed Hitler’s antisemitism as just an appeal to popular sentiment – hardly shocking considering America’s equally virulent contemporary racism. 

In those days, Jews were “kikes”, who were rarely lynched like the “niggers” but more like errant white people. They were, of course, white, too. But they didn’t stand out.

Here’s what Wikipedia has to say:

Before 1900 American Jews had always amounted to less than 1% of America's total population, but by 1930 Jews formed about 3.5%. This increase, combined with the upward social mobility of some Jews, contributed to a resurgence of antisemitism. In the first half of the 20th century, in the US, Jews were discriminated against in employment, access to residential and resort areas, membership in clubs and organizations, and in tightened quotas on Jewish enrolment and teaching positions in colleges and universities. The lynching of Leo Frank by a mob of prominent citizens in Marietta, Georgia, in 1915 turned the spotlight on antisemitism in the United States.The case was also used to build support for the renewal of the Ku Klux Klan which had been inactive since 1870.

The pioneer automobile manufacturer Henry Ford propagated antisemitic ideas in his newspaper The Dearborn Independent (published by Ford from 1919 to 1927). The radio speeches of Father Coughlin in the late 1930s attacked Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal and promoted the notion of a Jewish financial conspiracy. Some prominent politicians shared such views: Louis T. McFadden, Chairman of the United States House Committee on Banking and Currency, blamed Jews for Roosevelt's decision to abandon the gold standard, and claimed that "in the United States today, the Gentiles have the slips of paper while the Jews have the lawful money".

And the US turned away Jewish refugees from Germany on the eve of WWII, as did Canada.

My point here is that the New York Times is always in tune with the “times”.  It is and always has been a panderer to the the Public Soul, if the public can be said to have one. It does not have much in the way of a critical or moral dimension.

That was 1922.  The times passed but did not improve as we can see from appropriately named “Time” magazine. 1938.

In a similar way, the NYT was very forgiving of Mussolini. 

Like most royal families, the Media are rather incestuous.   So, Time Magazine followed suit. Like Zelensky, Benito had a unique style of dress, which looks odd today.  But then was pretty funky.  Times change?  Not really. But fashions do.

American journalism has never been famous for its conscience, ever on the side of the “establishment” whatever it was. Despite what many say, it does not lead; as I have said, it panders. Hate sells. The NYT is as silent about the atrocities of the Azovs as it was about the lynchings in the 20s.

The media somehow made it OK for families to pack lunch boxes and take their kids to watch black people being tortured, mutilated and killed.  Today, the family gathers around the TV set to watch Dexter do his job.       

Public Psychopathy

The public loves its serial killers. 

As mentioned, many people find “horror” a form of pleasure. Horror porn.

But they need to rationalize their visceral pleasure, the little orgasmic shocks that come with death and pain. 

So, Jeffry Dahmer is not a very very sick person in a very, very sick society —but entertainment. Somebody made money from the movie.  

Attractive psychopathic sadistic serial killers like Ted Bundy get their movies too.

Sadism, it seems, can be sexy.

Well-meaning, decent people will condemn the behavior of a Ted Bundy, while they’re walking past a magazine rack full of the very kinds of things that send young kids down the road to be Ted Bundys.

The Banality of Psychopathy

Bundy’s point was about what is popularly called “the banality” of evil.  It also referenced the influence of the media in propagating this — what Hannah Arendt termed “failure to think” echoing her teacher, Heidegger who defined it more holistically, as “the forgetfulness of being”— not just “thought” but also feeling.

Bundy and Dahmer are both considered “psychopaths”, as are Hitler and Mussolini.

Bundy, Hitler and Mussolini were all intelligent and rational, which allowed them to selectively “forget their “being” —their humanity. Dahmer could forget but also could not control his impulses much as he tried.

Whatever our characterizations, only Bundy can be considered a true genetic psychopath due to his complete lack of empathy or remorse.

That said, keep in mind, however, that Bundy and Dahmer’s victims together numbered less than a hundred. Hitler and Mussolini’s numbered in the millions. As do the victims of the US Empire under successive presidents since 1945. Who is most monstrous?

Bundy and Dahmer were limited by their lack of accomplices, the “little Eichmanns” made famous by Ward Churchill in his “what goes ‘round; comes ‘round” analysis of 9/11 (for which he was so viciously attacked).

The trouble with Eichmann was precisely that so many were like him, and that the many were neither perverted nor sadistic, that they were, and still are, terribly and terrifyingly normal. From the viewpoint of our legal institutions and of our moral standards of judgment, this normality was much more terrifying than all the atrocities put together.”

Normal does not equal Good.

This is a point that Bundy made over and over.  “If am Evil—what about YOU?”

So it is that the American people and their compliant media support a mass murderer named Volodymir Zelensky.

Zelensky and the Psychopathy of Greed

Volo’ is not a psychopath like Bundy. Nor homicidally compulsive like Dahmer. Nor is he driven by ideology like Mussolini and Hitler.

But he is just as bad.

He is banally psychopathic. A Little Eichmann who became a Big one. Some monsters are made not born,

As a TV comedian, he saw an opportunity to leverage his substantial popularity and run for President of the Ukraine in an election in which the “rebels” of Donbass and Lugansk could not vote.

He ran on “peace”. He was after all Jewish and Russian speaking.  But the man who made his run possible, also backed the Azov NeoNazis-- Ihor Kolomoyskyi.   “Peace” soon proved to be a lie, like an American campaign promise— it is ”Change you can not believe in”.

The Azovs had already become entrenched in government and all government institutions, but Kolomolyskyi soon became an embarrassment to the US as a result of his dealing with Hunter Biden. The CIA were effectively using the Azovs as satraps. They didn’t need the Big K, Zionist or not. And he had to go.

But they needed Zelensky as a front man.

Zelensky is an actor – used to playing a role —for an audience and he did exactly that. As an actor he did it for the money. “Peace” was not going to pay.

So war it was. He made millions, if not billions.

He was the perfect vehicle for the Western media to sell the Azovs and Banderites as “freedom fighters”. He also knew that if he went against the Azovs he’d have to make a quick run for London, where his family now is. But the US and UK might still turn against him as they did against Kolomolyskyi.

Better to just focus becoming “uber rich” of whom Chris Hedges writes

(The Uber Rich) are obsessed with looking at themselves. They are the center of their own universe. They go to great lengths and expense to create fictional personas replete with nonexistent virtues and attributes.

This narcissism is also true of media stars who, as ‘stars,” join the “uber rich” as a social group.

So it was that in the Ukraine people continued to die, thousands of them.

Eichmann could have quit or got himself transferred. But he didn’t. And Zelensky was no better. Zelensky had power. He could have tried at least to stop the slaughter.

Thus, Zelensky is as much of a cannibal as Dahmer. More so—Dahmer just ate people. Zelensky ate a country, or at least sliced its meat from the bones and cooked it.

Dahmer had remorse. 

Zelensky has none.

Like Bundy he revels in public attention.

Under Volo’s direction, his people have killed thousands more than “Ted” ever could, in ways more horrible than even his bizarre mind could not imagine. He is a greater monster than Bundy, who at least had genetics as an excuse. 

Future scenarios? 

In the end, Western Ukraine may cease to exist. Zelensky escapes to Beverly Hills and Hollywood which makes a movie, although not like their movies about Bundy and Dahmer. 

Volo’ will continue to be a hero. Like that little ISIS-inspired group called “the White Helmets” who helped orchestrate chemical attacks in Syria.

Or:

Russia captures and tries Zelensky as a war criminal. 

He repents and claims the Azovs forced him to do what he did. He cries on TV.

Russia does not want a martyr.  So, they pardon Zelensky – as long as he repudiates the West—and repatriates most (but not all) the millions he stole.

But that scenario is unrealistic. It won’t happen. The CIA will have him killed first – and blame it on the Russians. A sort of Skripal thing.

No matter.

In the end, “Volo” is just a little man, whose idea of humor was to play the piano with his penis – elevated to the status of national hero—not so much by his own people— certainly not by the Azovs since he is a Jew —but by the Western Media, for which everything is a TV serial, with a Hero and a Big Bad, casting done by the CIA and NED. Since 1945, Jews are acceptable as long as they are Zionists and not, say, Gabor Mate or Max Blumenthal.

Zelensky is a creation of the digital age —an avatar for monsters. But, in your all-encompassing banality, you are not allowed to think that, or feel the evil. Just enjoy.

In Season Umpteen of the Russia Has To Go series, the Arch Villain, Putin faces off against Brave Freedom Fighters, the Ukrainian Contras or ISIS-Kiev.  

As a Media Hero, Zelensky is no more real than any Marvel or DC hero. But like comic book heroes, the audience gets tired of same-old. The new season will likely introduce a new hero or a revised version of the old one.

I am 76.  Yes, I know—my profile picture, which is recent, looks younger.  There is a reason my book is called "Ageing Young-- You're Never Too Old To Rock and Roll", the title given to me by David Bowie's lead guitarist and songwriter, Mark Pritchett.

I write a lot about health issues, ageing successfully, cognitive issues like ASD—and… umm…genius. Recently, I have turned to geopolitical issues. 

I have worked in the media for almost 50 years. I was a stringer in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.  Then I was in Korea. And after that in Japan where I studied martial arts and Buddhism and did a lot of things: union organizer, writer, broadcaster, media analyst, beer and pizza.  I am neither Left nor Right. It’s a cognitive disability, an aspect of my ASD. I have trouble with that: tell me to turn right and I may go left and vice versa.  Politically, I prefer to say I am "multipolar". 

Which is probably what most people are.  People who label themselves "left" or "right" seem to be limiting themselves to an ideology. 

Guess that is OK if you are paying membership dues to a political party.  But I don't have money for that.
