NONE of this matters.

WHY?

The USA is dead.

Because of lack of education.

3/4 of the people in the USA have NO idea where Japan is on a map!

Do they even know where Chile is? NO.

I remember quite clearly going to a Doctor in the USA. Filling out forms!!!!!

" oh" the receptionist says to me: "I see you were born in Sri Lanka, where is that country in relation to S. America?"

It sounds like Japan is run entirely for the benefit of The United Snakes of America, by castrated lickspittle. At least they don't wear spats, monocles and top-hats any longer... Or do they?

"Japan will be buying Aegis systems with Tomahawk missiles, more F35s, investing in the UK-Italian 6th Generation joint fighter project. It has a shopping list to show it is a loyal American ally in the US’s Pacific alliance".

Obviously Japan doesn't need any of that. Whom is it going to fight? China or Russia would crush it in their sleep - and besides, if either fights, they probably both would. Australia? Why bother. As for UK-Italian fighters that don't even exist... how ridiculous.

More to the point, what could the USA do to Japan if it gave it the middle finger? It's high time Japan decided to be Asian and threw in its lot with BRICS. Then they can all give Uncle Sam the finger. ("Yes, I know the finger, Goose". "I hate it when it does that").

I too hope for Japan to pivot to BRICS. However, they will wait until the time is ripe, which is not yet, but should be soon. Decide slowly, act swiftly. Or as Tokugawa Ieyasu put it:

"The strong manly ones in life are those who understand the meaning of the word patience. Patience means restraining one's inclinations. There are seven emotions: joy, anger, anxiety, adoration, grief, fear, and hate, and if a man does not give way to these he can be called patient. I am not as strong as I might be, but I have long known and practiced patience. And if my descendants wish to be as I am, they must study patience."

Presently, Japan depends on USN Aegis ships for basic air and missile defense patrol! They need at least two long range defense radar sets, planned but not funded, maybe in the expansion?

Tomahawk in JDF vertical launchers are unproductive against their defensive shortages.

F-35 and Tomahawk are unprofitable, good for Lockheed, and Japan’s tiny military industrial complex

If the Japanese deploy Aegis cruisers, they had better keep their own aircraft well away from them. 8-|

I'm hoping Japan goes into BRICS myself. I can't wait to see the look on Trump's and the feds' faces when they do!

Happy New Year! May we all live in "interesting times" (and survive them) in 2025.

Japan will do no such thing. Like the europeans, they will go down if their American Master falls, but they never will abandon Master.

Like dogs, they literally cannot imagine life without Master and are terrified of even considering the prospect.

Well, there's nothing unfamiliar to Americans about being presented with candidates whom we despise, that's for sure.

Requirements to be placed in the bucket "US ally":

-1/Spend at least 5 percent of your budget to buy expensive American weapons.

-2/Buy expensive American gas instead of cheap Russian gas.

-3/If you happen to have natural ressources like fertile black earth, sell them to American companies like Blackrock, for a bargain price.

-4/Be ready to sacrifice your entire male population for the sake of the USA.

-5/If you own territories near the Arctic, give them to the Americans.

If this is really what Trump has on his mind, then it will be a rude awakening for all those (like me) who hoped that the world would be a better place with Trump in the White House. Apparently, America will be Made Great Again at the expense of the rest of the planet.

Thank you for your enlightening post.

While there may be distinctly Japanese cultural elements (ie non-Chinese derived), its history shows it to be imitative vs independent society. It also has a strong “Madame Butterfly* relationship with the west which conjoins its national sense of passive-aggressive fatalism which ennobles such odd behaviors as ritual seppuku.

So, no, Japan will not join BRICS — it won’t even be an observer. China is already its largest trading partner despite dumping nuclear effluent into the ocean, a typical behavior of an island (insular) people. And China is buying avocados elsewhere.

A very good analysis about how the elite that rules Japan is selected.

It is not very much different than in many other large states.

-

What i try to explain here is this:

Humans have old brains, Grey Matter, (200,000-1 million years) that:

1. Made them the ruling animal on the earth. They defeated all other animals and when they could not use them they exterminated them or are doing that.

2. Makes them try to create a group that rules (or exterminates) all other human groups (200.000 - 40.000 years old brain-parts mainly in the neural network: the white matter.

-

In the elder periode more than 200.000 years ago or more, routines are made in the brain (frontal lobes of the new -human- neocortex, that we share with apes and Neanderthals.)

They produce what we call: Instinctual responses, in which feelings and emotions rule the outcome. You see an 'animal' that doesn't look like those in your tribe and you get a fight or flee response.

-

In the newer periode, since about 200.000 years ago, you had to handle interactions with those that look like you, but are still strangers from another tribe.

Now evolution took another path... Instead of Grey Matter routines, White Matter changes made the decisions of who could be trusted as 'one of us' who were 'enemies' and who were strangers that could join the tribe.

Humans have an 'open social group' structure. Members can leave the group (backpackers we call them now) and strangers could be accepted in the group when they passed the tests to be one-of-us... (Father to daughter: 'Mary where the f#ck did you find that idiot ??')

But there is more and because of the complexity and the increasing speed of changes, even white matter changes could not in time create better responses...

So now evolution started using LANGUAGE and CULTURE as well as AUTHORITY and RELIGION as building blocks in the battle between human groups.

One of the main TARGETS was how to create a LARGER group (Authority and Religion).

Another one was: How do you get that larger group in time in action when some other group is (possibly) threatening them...

The tool is called: Group-thinking. It gives the Leaders the tools to create fear among their subjects and to let the fear work as an impuls to group around someone who promises to eliminate that fear. Ending the turmoil and confusion, that took too much time.

And in that stage, Wars, Tribes, Diplomacy, Hereditary Nobility, Peoples (Germans, Slavs etc.), Nations and Geopolitics was created. It only needed to find or invent the right words to meet the goal.

So...

What did i say with this ?

A LOT.

Example: When we can solve the FEAR mongering, we eliminate the group-thinking NEVER-ENDING WARS.

Just think about and and remember that with Internet each of us can reach every other human on earth. That cannot NOT change us... (Caitlin Johnstone)

OK.

That is my cent.

Another great analysis, Sander. I liked Caitlins’ post a lot — although Marshall McLuhan said the same thing back in the 60s. I would add to this that human beings were simple hunter-gatherers — not at all like other primates - more like bonobos (who do not kill their own kind) than chimps (who are violent) — for 50,000 years. It’s been called the “Original Affluent Society” for good reason. In “reverse dominance” societies like these, which I talk about in my upcoming Special Article, along with “giftedness” (aka “neurodivergence”) “authority” and “institutions” were incomprehensible, Then just 10, 000 years ago came the “Neolithic” revolutions — progressively larger, “dominance” societies - first “tribes”, then “civilizations’, each with “authority” and “institutions” and enforced belief systems. Why? Climate change. We adapted— because we had to, But these adaptations were not compatible with our genetics. Now, things are changing once again. Suddenly, diagnoses for ASD are rising about 300% per year — excluding diagnoses of ADHD and other “disorders”! Go figure.

I know I keep asking, but what exactly motivates these politicians to keep making decisions that are adverse to their ongoing health of their countries.

Supporting the Ukraine war and the sabre rattling against China are two issues that are blindingly obvious as to which position is correct.
