Go install Linux. There's a thousand distributions most geared to beginners.

Or Net/Open/Free BSD

Or continue to suffer... In silence

One word answer to your troubles: Linux. I've installed a Linux OS and have had zero problems. Bill Gates doesn't need our business and we don't need the bugs in his software programs.

You can also run most "Windows-only" software on Linux through Wine. I use Photoshop just fine on it, for example. It can admittedly take a bit of fiddling to do so and I wouldn't recommend it to those who need Windows software and aren't either good with computers, or good at troubleshooting and patient enough to be able to search and find information. The amount of software that can't be made to work on Linux is vanishingly small these days.

There are open source alternatives to various popular Windows tools. Gimp is a better image editor than Paint shop. Libre/OpenOffice better writer and excel processor that MaWord and Excel

My husband tried to get the Wine to work and use some MS software a few years back, and it was difficult, but we somehow got it to work. Not so easy these days, so we've made do with Linux compatible freeware that emulates the expensive MS stuff instead. I highly recommend folks to get away from Bill Gates' stuff as he's a Zionist supporter.

Even under Windows you can run G.I.M.P (graphics image manipulation program) to create and edit images or libre and open office for document writing and reading. All these open source programs have ports that run under Windows.

There if you can't stomach a Linux transition

I too need to use Windows 10 for certain types of audio software that I use in my work. I installed a third party piece of software that prevents the updater from working--basically, I have frozen my Windows 10 installation in place. This currently (fingers crossed) works for me. And I use a MacBook Pro for stuff that doesn't need to use Windows, such as this message.

Let this be a lesson to you: NEVER let your computer update itself "just because". ONLY do an update if you need it to run current software, and even then, maker sure you can undo that update if it messes up your machine. I've followed this rule for some years, and it has saved me from a lot of grief.

Great to see you back again !

I have spent a significant amount of my 40 years in the ICT in fighting Microsoft.

In that time Microsoft didn't make ANY new product or service.

As soon as someone create something new and people started using it in Windows (or DOS), MS made a bad copy of the product and added it to Windows (or DOS). "Free"...

So the inventor had invested and when it worked, he/she lost his/her market.

That is how you become Billionaire.

So i avoid using Microsoft programs or "components". I noticed many people do that.

My new PC-Hardware is Windows 11 "prepared" and i have until now stopped Microsoft installing that new robbers tool. One time i had to power off my PC to stop that unwanted process. I HATE MS...

I need Windows for my game and i am now too old to switch to Linux, even if they can support DirectX11.

I have a question: Maybe you know that.

I had a Telegram program running in Windows. I have an account, but do not use it yet.

I had it ready for if censorship in the West becomes intolerable. But recently i noticed i had to install it again. Now it asks for a telephone-number as ID-check. Meaning it assumes i have a smartphone, which i haven't... Too risky.

Until now "X"/Twitter is acceptable, but shadow-banning-like function degradation is limiting my growth and the amount of people noticing my tweets.

But first repair your own PC-software....

I was just stupid. I had windows update turned off -- then somehow it got turned on. Dumb! I tried to uninstall the updates but that didn't work. So I tried System Restore. Dumber and dumber! Right now I need Windows for audio video software and to run dictation software that doesn't run on Linux, which I have used and actually prefer. I still can't type well, with a dead spot in my index finger which generates mistypes. I have gotten some feeling back but manual typing is slow and sometimes painful. For the time being I am using my second computer.! X? I post regularly and have just 275 followers! "Shadow-banned?"

Microsoft was "founded" the same way and for the same purpose as Fakebook - to capture and control an important market. Consequently, Bill gates is the same kind of mediocre fool as Zuckerberg, in technical terms - but he had the right family ties and psychopathic tendencies to serve as figurehead.

M$ Windows is one of the most successful industry espionage tools. Or does anyone really believe M$ cooperated with the NSA in '90 to "improve their product" ?

For those who don't know, I refer to the "NSA Key" scandal here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSAKEY

All machines have issues! The most certain thing about all types of human engineered machines is they will always break down, one day.

Back in the mid 1990 I used to teach in secondary schools that all had Windoze machines, and I remember many conversations with tech support and students who all much preferred the Apple mac user experience and so used macs at home whilst sneering at all Windoze problems they encountered at school!

Ever since I've always used macs, and have met many computer buffs too, who all swear by linux machines and macs (also their operating systems are similar to linux*) plus they offer the benefit of a high quality controlled hardware platform c/w windoz or linux hardware options which will be sourced from multiple manufactures i.e. less reliable on average.

I use a 12 year old macbook pro which are cheap (~£120 - £150 on average for highest spec & condition) easily available on e.g. eBay, are super easy to fix / swap parts, and so I have several in stock and expect to be running them for many years (future software compatibility issues allowing). Plus the mac OSX10 interface is really intuitive and quick and easy to learn.

(*) Mac OS is based on a BSD code base, while Linux is an independent development of a unix-like system. This means that these systems are similar, but not binary compatible.

It was when I installed the Windows 10 anniversary update on a perfectly good HP desktop, which is still running today, that it was bricked, even though the diagnostics told me it was OK to install, that I decided on the spot to switch to Linux. I never looked back. Slowly I have helped some friends and family to do the same thing, and eventually we will get rid of the virus altogether.
