It's the Scottish/English border not the Scottish /British border by the way. I live 37 miles from the border as the crow flies & you're correct. In the region I live in hardly any other English can understand a word we say. Quick example of a phrase everyone in my region will say just about every day is

" Why aye man" it means in normal English " yes of course" . Completely different words spoken in a completely different accent. Ukrainians are more than likely more Russian than the English in my region are English. Mad as it seems.
